Have been playing on and off since this launched on Origin. Best battle royale type game there is. As simple as that. Compared to others - PUBG is too much of a horror movie: you loot in silence for 15 minutes and then die from one bullet to the head from god knows where when you are running across a field or street. Not fun at all. And then there is the opposite in Fortnite - you just chill around randomly destroying buildings or fishing or building a skyscraper and then you and some other guy spray each other with water pistols and you somehow win. Also not fun.

This is different. The mechanics of different legends lead to different playstyles and ability interactions with each other and the map. Long range engagements rarely kill you as the first bullets will first have to take down your shield, so multiple hits are needed and when you get the first hit you get info about where it came from, you can see bullet traces, so you know where to move to, so you don't get hit more. The maps is complex enough so that there are always multiple paths to choose, so you can be much more strategic with engagements. Close combat is more deadly and more twitchy and requiring more reflexes, but still there is time to react and do something - dodge, trigger ability, close a door, ...

The key to this game is movement. It is just amazingly executed. The walking and running feels right and then you can also slide and wall jump for complex evasion patterns. Many legend abilities extend movement toolbox, like a grappling hook or a jump pad or a teleport. But no legends are overpowered. Even more balance is brought by the fact that by default the game is played in a squad of 3 people. Some legend abilities rely on you having teammates. This is not a solo game. And that is refreshing, it brings much more to the table.

The game is free to play and there is no pay to win. Money can only buy you cosmetic items. And you get random cosmetics even without paying anything. I would still suggest at least getting the Battle Pass each season to support the developers as it gives season-long progression with many cosmetics in it.

Run around for 15 minutes then a random bullet from somewhere comes and kills you dead instantly. Repeat. And so for 30 hours. Has not changed in all the years. Realistic != interesting. Better off playing Apex.

Wonderful depiction of relationships and sexuality in the modern context. All the praise about the storytelling and the dialogue is well on point. The depictions of consent, identity and respect are just best I have ever seen in any media.
