In a very competitive year for good video games, this is the game of the year for many – including myself. But Baldur's Gate 3 could very well define a generation... depending on how other game developers react to BG3's massive financial and cultural success.

I initially played this on Steam Deck – being on an international vacation. Still, despite being squirreled away in tiny hostel spaces, I didn't want to miss the premiere. And BG3's first versions took the technological limitations of the Deck to the limit – it often got very hot and couldn't go for longer than 90-120 minutes of gameplay before needing to cool down/shut down. But Acts 1 and 2 ran, for the most part, very well! There was some initial struggle with the console controls, but subsequent hotfixes seemed to clear those up rapidly. And patches that followed improved Act 3 performance greatly.

Currently, I'm playing BG3 on PC and Playstation, and I still occasionally dip back into Steam Deck play. This game should be in your library, even if you're not normally into this sort of combat. You're very likely to find something you'll enjoy in Baldur's Gate 3.
