Just when you thought that video games aren't cutting it for you anymore, DOOM comes and slaps you in the back of the head with a chainsaw.

Experiencing DOOM is like experiencing gaming for the first time again, the gaming industry has expanded massively and rapidly and it evolved to become very complicated, and all that lead to straying away from the sole purpose of video games, fun .

Fun is the best word when used to describe DOOM, yes its simple, and it makes no apologies for what it is, it knows what it is and doesn't care what you think.

There is no regenerating health, no cover-based combat, and instead of being a random soldier you are the doom slayer himself, a guy who doesn't need to sprint since he moves at maximum speed at all times, can rip anything apart, and most importantly doesn't speak, nor does he need to, since his actions do all the talking he could ever need.

The story is there, it's a little bit cliche but it's there, and it's pretty interesting.

I don't usually bother with secrets but with DOOM the game just makes you love doing it, secret classic DOOM rooms, character and weapon figures, and hidden upgrade modules waiting to be found, sometimes finding these secrets is complicated and that was an unexpected twist i never saw coming.

Combat is the crown jewel of the game, it's fast paced, brutal, and most importantly just undeniabely fun, there are finishing moves (Glory Kills) that reward you with health drops and a fascinating show of hellish brutality, and don't forget the ultimate satisfaction when you finally recieve the BFG...

oh and there is a multiplayer mode or something...

If capcom gave this game a bit more time it would have been one of the best for it's time, and frankly the biggest thing that is sinking this game down is the Resident Evil/Biohazard license.

The gun fight mechanics in this game are absolutely amazing, when before in 4 and 5 you can only do certain actions like dodge only when an enemy is about to hit you by using a combination of keys, now its free, you can roll anywhere, slide and you can use those mechanics together, for instance rolling and holding aim will keep you on the ground aiming instead of instantly standing up after finishing the maneuver, you can also use melee freely whenever you want, where before you could only melee someone if you stunned them by a shot to the head or the leg, and you REALLY need to use melee because if you don't you're not going to have enough ammo and you'll end up meleeing a boss and good luck with that. those great mechanics are the game's best and worst part depending on who you are, yes i prefer the old Resident Evil formula and i don't particularily like how Resident evil became more focused on action and explosions but give credit when credit is due, the mechanics in this game are amazing.

This game bit a lot more than it could chew for me, it tried to combine everything in one game by making seperate character paths that are all part of one big story and those characters collide occasionally, the concept is really clever but sadly instead of making the game unparallelled, it makes it an average experience for each character, the game needs more time and you can feel how rushed some of the things are.

Ammo is more scarce which is again, a good thing or a bad thing depending on you, Resident evil games prior to 4 were all about thinking ahead and saving ammo whenever possible, back to the matter at hand, you can remedy the lack of ammo drops with a perk that increases the drop rate for different types of ammo.


But what about the core concept of a Resident evil game, Horror? well the game doesn't deliver at all in this aspect, leon's campaign path is supposed to return to the roots with the classic flesh eating zombies instead of "las plagas" or "uroboros"etc, granted in some parts of the game it gets really classic but all in all with the exception of a few jump scares there isn't anything to be scared of.


In terms of Storyline, it's... well there, that's what it is at best, you're going to have a few emotional moments and a few really badass ones but it's cliche and you can see what's going to happen miles away, very predictable, but playing through all 4 storylines will reveal a lot of the things you didn't understand or just took for granted which is really good.

However the game can get challenging sometimes which is always good, you'll die and some enemies are really tough, and the lack of ammunition (if you don't use melee efficiently) doesn't help either.


I have a few minor gripes, for instance the graphics are great but the textures really kill it sometimes, you're walking in this amazingly lighted and detailed enviroment and you look at the floor and it looks straight out of resident evil 4 (non-hd), really needed more time here.

Playing it with a mouse has this bug, a HUGE mouse lag that makes the game unplayable, there is a fix but it hinders you a bit, you're better off with a controller for this one.


Lastly i can recommend this game if you have a friend that can play it with you, having a friend will make this game extremely fun and will use the coop nature of it to the max, if not then if you can deal with the AI (which isn't that bad) then by all means go ahead.

Learn to speak Spanish, Portuguese, and Russian (and type in cyrillic) from the very people who speak it in their everyday lives! and for absolutely nothing in return other than the your own dignity and self-esteem, hate everyone you meet and use "♥♥♥♥" (which is pronounced suka) as a response to anyone who is speaking russian to you.
