Has been a lot of fun so far. Some technical issues with skipping and brief freezing, but it looks like it has a lot of potential. I found myself planning to drag my friends into playing on my birthday. Though...

Perhaps I should have known somehow, but I wasn't aware that even though it is a full price game it wants more money to be played properly. I don't know how many times, or how obtrusive it will be, but be aware that even if you pay a full price the game will nag you for more money.

Won't even start up on PC. Fantastic game if you can play it on a platform that works. Avoid the PC version.

The Forest has an (apparently) great crafting system that feels pretty credible, and has beautiful, alive and stimulating environments to mess around in... at least, it seems likely that it does. Minutes after being forced to watch the same opening cutscene for the dozenth time the same scripted enemy encounter takes place and inevitably you are captured. Perhaps there is a way to escape the cave you wake up in with enough trial and error, but every time I’ve appeared a matter of seconds after gaining consciousness I’m attacked again and immediately killed.

I'm really excited to mess around with The Forest more in the future, but for now the enemies are able to soak up comical amounts of damage and are essentially omniscient. There’s no time to do anything before being trounced making the whole thing feel so imbalanced as to be no fun. They need to ramp up the difficulty more gradually, tighten combat up substantially.

There is apparently a survivor mode available now which I’ll give a try, but with NO resistance the lack of tension will likely sap the experience of any fun in short order.

I have really high hopes they'll get the balancing straightened out so I can give it a proper go as more patches come out.

The game starts and is clearly running, but the display remains black regardless of what settings and compatibility changes I make as per suggestions in the forums. It has been suggested in the forums it's possible to get the game to run on only the primary display, but for me that solution isn't viable, or desired.

Unless you are willing to risk technical issues, or perhaps waste your money entirely, consider trying on a console, and give the PC version a miss.
