Activision seems hellbent on making playing COD the most frustrating process known to man, for ♥♥♥♥ sake just make each game a separate game in the library instead of this mess you've insisted on keeping. If you want to play the Blops 6 Beta you'll need to:
1) Open MW3 and sit through unskippable intro cutscenes (I haven't played in a while)
2) Update requires restart
3) Wait for MW3 to launch again
4) Click Blops 6 in the Menu
5) MW3 closes, and Blops 6 launches
6) Update requires restart
7) Wait for Blops 6 to launch again
8) [Player data loaded], but the only option is to Quit to Desktop? What? Is this a bad error message?
9) Quit to desktop, and launch MW3 Again
10) Click Blops 6 in the Menu
11) MW3 Closes, and wait for Blops 6 to launch
