I played this a lot, although the different techs (eco, tycoon, sci) are ridiculously stereotyped. I think when I first started, playing as the ecos, I said out loud "the only thing that could make this more ridiculous is if I got given a quest to rescue some dolphins from an evil oil slick" and then I got given a quest to rescue some dolphins from an evil oil slick.

I have been playing this game for 5 years and I'm still ♥♥♥♥ at it. But I'm still playing it CIV CIV CIV
