An empty pen of its former self.

I originally was really excited at the prospects of slime rancher 2 as it seemed to tease heavily that it would be a co-op based version of Slime Rancher 2 (SR2).
They have included many in game items to suggest that was the original intention such as 2+ player racing objects, 2+ player mini games with goals on either "team".

I am aware that the devs have stated in their FAQ that they are not going to be doing multiplayer at this time and 'never planned on it', but the items in game feel contrary to that.

Overall most of SR2 feels like a DLC for the original game without many of the essential features that made the original fun. The new slimes and areas in SR2 are great, but again could have been a DLC. The original game allowed you to travel to the other NPCs ranches and islands, it had many more crafting items that are being slowly added here as if they are 'new' innovations when they had been basic key items in the first. The NPCs in this are incredibly bland and have none of their stories attached to them, they do not even have quests for you. They have unspoken quest rewards you will receive at random for playing through the game normally, but no challenges or stretch goals.

I do love this game and want to see more for it. That is my my review seems very critical. Right now the game feels very hollow. You feel very isolated without any real contact or communication with your fellow ranchers, it is almost dystopian in its emptiness. It almost feels like a spin off Roblox / Appstore game with half the functions and double the price.


I am aware the game isn't fully finished, but as it stands it isn't worth the current price point and the original SL is going to provide more entertainment for half the price and it has more available mods made by the community.


Id like to come back and edit my review as updates come out for the game and have more positive things to say.

A wonderful game to play with a really unique story, smooth stylized graphics, and a relaxing style of game play. In many ways the game can be similar to that of animal crossing by doing quests for animals, living on a island, and real time play. However it offers a lot more secrets to discover!

Personally my favorite part is having the multi coloured pet birds all around my camp site!

I play for the nostalgia.

Kinda spooky, but tons of fun with friends. The glitches and ways that the characters and models move add a whole other level of fun stuff to try out. Best part of playing so far has been watching my friend rag doll down a flight of stairs.

Edit: Having achievements added to the game like: "winning hide and seek," "first death," Guessing the correct ghost," "and meeting one of every ghost," would be a lot more engaging for players!
