Great game for the franchise mode and spectating. Some rough edges, but nothing game breaking.

Eternal is built on the same basic systems and concepts as Magic: the Gathering, but adapted to the digital medium. The gameplay has been smoothed out to allow for a better flow and faster games (less pausing and waiting). This does remove some of the very top end of complexity that you would see in MTG, but Eternal is still plenty complex for most people, and has lots of room for skilled play. The card mechanics also make good use of the digital design space for some very interesting card interactions.

The reward system is fairly generous, and a breath of fresh air compared to other games in the genre. Even with the 6 sets now released, you can still reasonably play this game for free or with a limited budget.

The game has a wide variety of playable cards and decks. You can play any faction (color) combination you want and have a fairly strong deck, even reaching the highest level on the ladder (Masters). If you want to play in competitive tournaments there are less decks that will do well, but still a variety of options and a regularly shifting metagame. For limited formats, there is Draft and an awesome monthly Sealed league.

There are PvE modes, but they are minimal and largely neglected. I cannot honestly recommend the game for someone that does not want to play against other players.

Overall, Eternal is fun, well made, and in my opinion the best digital CCG on the market.
