Great demo that deserves more attention. The most complex economy for a tower defense game I've ever seen but you manage it all between waves so it's relaxed unlike an RTS which forces you to act quickly while also fighting a battle. You also earn permanent upgrades that makes you powerful and makes you want to play 1 more game to see how far you can get.

How good the final release is will be completely dependent on how much content the dev implements. Once you max out all the upgrades most people will move on.

Takes the Vampire Survivors formula and improves upon it.
If there is one thing to take away from this review it is that this game release with more replay value than Vampire Survivors has almost 6 months after release. I loved Vampire Survivors but it took about 10 hours to unlock everything that was in the game. I've just passed 11 hours in this game and I've not even unlocked half the content. Both games will continue to grow and expand so this may not always be the case but it means something today.

Spirit Hunters replayability is thanks to a large tree used to purchase new characters, abilities, pets and upgrades. Your purchase the upgrades using 3 different currencies, one of which is only found in more challenging difficulties. Some nodes have a prerequisite which is usually killing a large number of regular enemies or a handful of bosses. It's a great system that encourages you to revisit levels. My only problem is that there are times where you feel you are not making any progress. You are amassing currency but there is nothing you want or can buy.

Areas I'd like to see improved:
  • Art style is nice but I do hope to see the animation improved upon.
  • There are also some minor UX issues that can be cleaned up for instance a replay level button at the end game screen would be nice.
  • Lastly, I feel like the abilities need to be balanced better, perhaps some of the later upgrades will change this up but as it stands there are abilities I flat out refuse to choose because I feel they much worse than the other options. So if nothing else, balance them better for the early game to increase the diversity in how the game is played.

It's a great game, you can't really go wrong for $5.

As a fan of these 'FPS Roguelite' games I have to say this is one of the most overrated games I have come across on Steam. That's not to say it is a bad game, but for a long time this title maintained an 'Overwhelmingly Positive' score here on Steam and has only recently fallen to 'Very Positive.' It does this despite having average to below average level design, enemy design and variety and weapon design. I am fairly convinced that the developer and publisher Duoyi (Hong Kong) Interactive Entertainment Limited owes it's success to flooding Steam with fake/paid reviews, similar to what companies do on Amazon.

There are much better games in this genre that deserve your time and attention including but not limited to: Ziggurat, Ziggurat 2, Risk of Rain 2, Robo Quest, Immortal Redneck, Delver, City of Brass and more. Do not be fooled by the reviews, but if you are do what I regret not doing and seek a refund.

Ruinarch is a very unique game that has the potential to be great. However at this point of the game's development it is hard to recommend it. I do not think the game offers much in terms of replayability compared to other titles of a similar genre.

One other minor gripe I had was that the tutorial is long and repetitive. I get it if I want to find what happened I go to the log, I don't need that explained to me through 10 different examples.

The game is fun for a few hours and it may be worth it to invest now in Early Access before the price goes up when 1.0 releases. I feel once 1.0 drops this game will be a gem but until then I see myself investing time in other, more complete titles.

Payday 2 can be a great game. Doing missions on higher difficulty and fighting off waves of enemies while you try to rob a bank can be a a lot of fun. I'm particularly fond of doing stealth missions, while there is far less action it provides a great thrill. You then earn money and XP to buy new weapons and learn to skills, keeping you coming back for more.

The biggest problem with the game is the community and the tools the devs have given them. New to the game? Well unfortunately a lot of the community would sooner kick you from the game then explain what to do. Even if you are good at the game, you do something the host doesn't like he can run to the exit of the level, stand 1ft away and kick you from the game meaning you earn nothing and wasted your time. The best ways to counter this are to play with people you know, or to host your own games so you are then judge, jury and executioner.

The other problem with the game is aiming with a scope. After playing with numerous settings it does not feel right. The sensitivity is off and you end up fighting the gun more so I actually avoid putting scopes on all my guns.
