I played this game in 2010 at release, it was horrible back then. Even upon its re-release it has had its issues, but this games evolution has truly stood the test of time. I know enough now to express my thoughts and feelings into this review.

FFXIV cares about your time, and never makes you feel like you are lagging behind. It allows you to pace yourself and present itself with an immersive story, as well as, incredible scores within each instance.

As a WoW refugee, this game actually made me more happy to see a positive community in a game that's moderated by its developers. It's not meant to deter you from having fun, but to inspire you to help others become more grounded in the foundation its made.

You can play the free trial (the whole base game, and heavensward; the first expansion) completely for free with no time limit. Which after writing this I have now played through - that means you have possibly over 100 hours of free content waiting to be explored.

I recommend this game to anyone looking to escape into a world thats less bleak than the one we all live in.

10/10 would sub to many times again.

Update:
I have completed Endwalker. This game made me tear up, it made me angry, it made me feel.
If you are on the fence about playing or even trying FFXIV just do it. You wont lose anything, play the free trial and decide whenever. I believe the developers truly care about their game and every time we get an update gets me more hyped for the future. Still the best MMO experience within a community I have ever had.

Sadly, I can not see myself enjoying this. As someone who has been welcomed into D&D through friends, it is much more enjoyable to sit over a discord call and roleplay in a one-shot then play this.

I try not to let game journalists or even fans of the game get my hopes down but damn do I feel let down big time.
A lot goes into making a game, and I do believe they will fix some things, however this is kind of unacceptable for the price point. $40 for this? And not only that if you want to see how broken things are go ahead and look below.

Right off the bat, I hit many problems and bugs within my near hour of play.
-AI standing on nothing only to be killed by a ranged attack. (Goblins can't just do that, can they?)
-Playing solo, your character just monologues to themselves boasting about what is too come; this is corny/unrealistic.
-Playing with others, connectivity was spotty at best, but within my first mission the difficulty was bumped up 1 peg...
just 1...the AI proceeded to lock us in a corner until we died from constant barrages or DOT from the environment.
-FPS drops when fighting random 2-3 goblins at a time, also camera locked up on me (couldn't look left or right) Death was the only fix.
-Beware of your short rests, they come with a cost...want sweet loot rarity? or would you like to start from the beginning over and over and over again, the choice is yours...ugh.

I feel bad for those who looked forward to this because I know I did. This game has no love in it. It has story thats been around since 1988, and the setting just may be the only take away from this game.

Didn't rush through it, enjoyed every second.
Don't believe everything you hear either, the game isn't a broken mess like people say, yes some bugs are in the game, but as you can see it is fully playable. I beat every mission and got every ending, without any real hiccups along the way. Not to mention around 90 hours of gameplay that was purely just fun to go through. I dont normally go through games in full completion but this one was hard to put down so I had to push myself to get all the achievements. I would recommend you give this game a shot, maybe a few months from now when they have ironed out some of the graphical bugs other than that I loved the story and each ending is pretty satisfying. 2020 was a ♥♥♥♥ year, but this was a good time in 2077.

EDIT:
I poured another 100 hours into a fresh playthrough. Update 2.0 has brought this game it is full potential with a reworked perk system, and meaningful changes within the world of Night City. The game has never felt better than right now. I haven't tried out modding for this game yet, mostly because I am afraid I will fall in love again with replaying this game...but I will try to one day soon. Regardless, Phantom Liberty came out finally, and it absolutely delivered on all fronts. CDPR knows how to do DLC correctly, you get so much more than what you paid for with Phantom Liberty, and in my opinion, its an expansion that needs to exist in your game. You should be playing this game over Starfield. It's a better game, with a better story, and better bones. Not once will you be pulled into a loading screen unless you die, or are save scumming. Needless to say, but your immersion comes first and foremost with Cyberpunk.

If this expansion doesn't get love in the Game Awards this year, I will know that the award show is rigged.

Thank you CDPR for making the game I loved in 2020, a game I could love even more in 2023. Looking forward to the sequel!

This game has so much to offer, its great for solo play and with friends. 10/10 would play again.

This game is challenging, but not impossible.
This may be the best metroidvania game I have played to date. 10/10 MUST HAVE!

If you are a fan of developers who truly care about the industry and making the customer happy, buy this game.
Team Cherry was made of three like minded developers who made a wonderful, imaginative, and serene world.
I can not wait for the next game Silksong!

I've played 20 minutes of this game and I am gonna be honest, the developers clearly made bank with this masterpiece. Epic Soundtrack, Epic Guns, Epic EVERYTHING! For 0.67 cents I couldn't have asked for a better experience. MUST BUY! Don't @ Me
