I love working for the taxman and getting a laughing emoji with a thumbs up to leave the area after I "repo" someone else's belongings.

I kept seeing this game pop up in my social feed and have decided to take a look and try it out. I sent the steam page to two of my gaming friends and we did not expect such a high quality demo. We were very much intrigued when we entered the game and had an amazing experience for several hours.

Despite their past history with some people commenting about the company having faced financial issues leading to an abandonment of their previous games, I believe as an outsider this one holds promise and potential. Their discord is active and the devs occasionally respond to feedback and bug reports. They are generally pretty helpful on their server. My friends and I plan to continue past the demo and wish the best for the people working on DZ:R. Can't wait to see what they bring to this genre!

A disclaimer I want to mention is that they do use AI Generated assets, most notably their icons for augments/skills, but this honestly does not affect the gameplay this demo offers. As long as you get past that information and not feed into people creating arguments in the discussion page, give this demo a shot. It's free after all.

I'm going to make this review for anyone who is interested in trying Destiny 2 out in 2024. I've had Destiny 2 in my steam library for probably 6+ years now and I've never once installed the game. They recently had a big sale on their previous dlcs so I decided to buy the collection. I've looked online and have heard it does not contain everything included from said dlcs and even saw posts not recommending going into this game as of this current year.

Despite all of this, I installed the game and opened it up. Upon first launch it wanted me to install their anticheat, not really a problem as I haven't gotten to the game yet. After loading in and going through the cutscenes, the game just throws you in without much info, similar to Warframe. A quick overview over the gameplay is it's decent, nothing special outside of skills and weapons remind me of Borderlands. The movement however, feels off-putting. When going through the first quest for new players, you'll be challenged to doing "parkour" at certain stages. The problem is that the movement execution is horrible...on top of the game not explaining how to use your glide, for example holding down the spacebar can increase your altitude.

Okay, the gameplay is passable and the weapons I was limited to were not the most unfun to use and the movement is, to say the least, very lacking. But keep in mind, this is my first few hours of playing and I haven't done a whole lot of research if you can improve the mobility. Moving on, I wanted to access the items I received from the dlcs...

Oh wait, it says I need to complete so and so to unlock these items. Okay, surely I'm fresh out the game, I got some gear, let's see if I'm capable enough. Now some stuff you can unlock instantly but I had to search online to see where I had to go, and even then I had to search in game of where to go because the navigation screen has a lot of interactables that once again the game does not tell you about.

Needless to say, I finally found the treasure hoarder whom you're supposed to talk to for part of the dlc rewards...now it was time to get the rest - in a dungeon called Grasp of Avarice. This is where I decided to uninstall Destiny 2.

One of the big issues with Destiny 2's dev company Bungie decided not to include matchmaking for a lot of modes - this includes the Grasp of Avarice dungeon. Since I know nobody willing to play or even know how to recruit a so called Fireteam, it's just me going solo.

The first hour of trying to figure out the objective and puzzles was quite agonizing, but I'll spare the details. I managed to make it till the very end, where you encounter the dungeon boss, I presume. Supposedly you could call a fireteam before you begin but again I was unsure how to or if I was too low leveled. Anyways, onto the boss fight and almost instantly I knew this was going to be VERY rough.

Here's the thing: the boss was immune to my weapons and there was very little coverage. Once the boss locks in on me, he almost never stops shooting and I pass away in merely 2 seconds. Another google search it is, and lo and behold I need a rocket launcher from an enemy that the boss LOVES targetting so by the time I kill the enemy and grab the launcher, it's death for me.

And you might be wondering for any new players like me - WAIT Yuki, you just have to survive when you get the launcher and shoot the boss, you can clear it! WRONG - after a quick youtube video demonstrating the method to kill the boss, its vital weakspot is its back. Yeah you heard that right, I have to pick up a launcher to shoot at the boss's back in order to deal damage and repeat without DYING... and you're like but that's impossible if the boss locks onto you...yeah about that...

That's very much why I stopped playing and removed the game. Unlike Warframe which I've clocked hundreds of hours in, Destiny 2 at its core does NOT consider solo play in mind. Among many other past actions that I've heard about this game, this is really one of the worst experiences for someone who does not have an active squad all the time to play a massive game like this.

This is quite heartbreaking considering I love the theme and the environment and the grind in a looter shooter, but this is not solo-friendly for both casual or hardcore players alike. I'm sure if I had kept playing, I would become more frustrated and the things I've heard about this game prior would happen to me and for these reasons, this game is NOT worth playing if you're starting out OR coming back in. It is very saddening but lesson learned - not every game can perform well and this is solely my opinion.

Recent negative reviews about this game are about Warframe's latest frame Temple and the situation regarding a certain content creator. I find it best to ignore the obvious hate from these people because they lack the basic human decency to use the correct pronouns that the devs themselves have stated in their posts and streams. In fact, they're doing us a favor by removing themselves from the game because there is no place for non-empathetic people ruining a good community. It's one thing to use the incorrect pronouns to address a fictional character and correcting yourself, but it's another to ignore and continue misusing pronouns and doubling down on it because said character looks "masculine". Actions have consequences. This is not a complex issue, but people can't seem to grasp that. Other than that, Warframe is a great free-to-play game, it has a lot to offer, plenty of content, great community.
