🔸Phishing sites and links under various pretexts
You're sent a link to a "tournament," "voting," "profile," "inventory check," "account verification," or a "great deal."

In reality, it's a phishing site, visually resembling Steam or another service. Their goal is always the same: to trick you into logging in. Once you enter your credentials, the scammers gain access to your account (even without your knowledge).

ɪᴍᴘᴏʀᴛᴀɴᴛ:
— This could be a personal link in a conversation, a website in search results, or even QR codes in streams, videos, or descriptions;

— Scammers persistently push you to complete the key action—authorization—because this is what allows them to intercept access.

🔸Masking as support service actions

This method works when partial access to an account already exists. Scammers use this to change the username, avatar, and description of a hacked profile, passing off their actions as those of support staff.

They may report "suspicious activity," "complaints," "temporary bans," and demand urgent, hasty decisions, such as transferring skins to a friend's account.

🔸Trade Spoofing

Unless you're trying to gain full access to an account through a Steam support representative (as happened with Kjaerbye), the only way to trick someone is to trick them into making a trade and then spoof it.

Situations often arise where, after communicating with a "blogger," etc., they offer skins as a gift, but first require them to show trust and sell the skins on the website. There's no risk, since the trade isn't with the blogger, and the skins will be returned later. However, it's likely that the scammer has already gained access to your account (or was planning to do so), and once the trade begins, they'll simply replace it with their own account.

ʜᴏᴡ ᴛᴏ ᴛᴇʟʟ ɪꜰ ʏᴏᴜ'ʀᴇ ʙᴇɪɴɢ sᴄᴀᴍᴍᴇᴅ

🔸They're playing with you, gaining your trust by asking seemingly innocuous questions: about your first Steam game, your email, account security. They might offer "help," a "boost," a "drop," or just some free bonus.

🔸They're messaging you as "support" — asking you to confirm your details or immediately click a link and log in. Support NEVER messages first.

🔸You're logged into your Steam account in a browser, but the website asks for your username and password or scans a code.

Prevention: ʜᴏᴡ ᴛᴏ ᴀᴠᴏɪᴅ ʙᴇɪɴɢ ʜᴀᴄᴋᴇᴅ

🔸Use saved bookmarks on official websites, not search results;

🔸Log in only through the official Steam login button;

🔸If a website requires you to manually enter your username and password during an active Steam session, this is a warning sign; leave the website;

🔸Never click links from strangers;

🔸Don't scan QR codes from dubious videos and streams;

ᴡʜᴀᴛ ᴛᴏ ᴅᴏ ɪꜰ ʏᴏᴜʀ ᴀᴄᴄᴏᴜɴᴛ ɪs ʜᴀᴄᴋᴇᴅ:

🔸If you've lost access to your account, gather proof of account ownership (email addresses, phone numbers, your first purchased game, previously linked cards, your city, and your usual time of activity) and contact support as soon as possible. You can also ask friends to report the account, stating the reason:
"The user is engaged in fraud or the account has been hacked."

🔸If you're still logged in, don't accept any trade offers and change your account login information. If the transaction with the scammer's account has already taken place, use Steam's Trade Protection feature to cancel the transaction and secure your account according to the instructions.

Follow these steps:
1) Log out of all devices at https://steamproxy.net/steamstore/twofactor/manage (button below)
2) Revoke your key here: https://steamproxy.net/dev/apikey (you don't need to register a new one—the field should be empty)
3) Change your account password/change the password for the original email address (linked to your account)
4) NEVER EVER ENTER YOUR STEAM ACCOUNT DETAILS IN A BROWSER ON ANY SITE, OR ONLY UNLESS YOU ARE SURE OF THE SITE.
