Oh the memories... I remember getting this in the town over in a PS game store. My parents got me the game kind of knowing I will spend an insane ammount of time playing it. A strategy game on a PS1 now sounds weird right? Well, I tried playing it a few years ago and can't match myself from 20+ years ago. I still don't know how was I so fast and accurate at controlling the game via the D pad, not the analog stick.

Countless nights spent with my Dad playing this, trying to complete the entire game. The greatest issue was our lack of perfect english (I was young and Dad only knew the basics) and lack of save points on the PS1. You didn't even have saves, you just got the code for the mission to replay it later. And since we had no internet and I was the only one in my circle to play this - I didn't have any option other than to complete the game and write down the level codes. Some codes I managed to guess because they were basic and they were some of the later missions, but due to my lack of skill and knowledge I had to postpone completing those... until i got older...

This game is trully a gem, a classic - one that defined my childhood and introduced me to the RTS genre which I've never stopped playing. It was a point of bonding with my dad and he still enjoys the game and recognizes the soundtrack instantly (not just the main theme).

I brang friends to my place just to show them the game. And since I loved to play with the soviets a lot, my friends heard a lot of the units lines of in-game dialogue. They started calling the game Asmoledged... because that is how they understood the word Achknowledged when it was said by the Soviets with the dumb broken english. I mean, I have stories of not turning off my PS1 for entire night and day because we weren't at home and couldn't save in the middle of the mission. Dad used to spend hours perfectly managing the 6th Soviet mission until guessing what to do with the radar. He conquered the whole map and upon seeing engineers damage the building (we still didn't know engineers can occupy buildings but you had to use multiple, so the building health goes down and then it is captured) and used Tania to try and enter it (yes, both factions have tania for some reason) and she failed the mission cause the radar was blown up... That mission was failed a milion times because we could't look up a guide and had to keep guessing what to do. Fun times
