It can be better.

Excessively chill, incredible music, a perfect liminal experience of driving through the Pacific Northwest. The story is engaging, voice acting on point, art direction razor sharp and the since of exploration is awe inspiring, despite not being an open world game. A great game at that 30 USD price point.

Don't expect a ton of challenge, or a bunch of huge scares - certain design decisions, like making the "runs" as long as they are (30 minutes to an hour) without any really effective check-pointing with saves means that the threat of death isn't on the table if you are paying half attention to your health.

Please play the game with headphones: the sound design is startlingly immaculate, some of they best I've ever heard in a game.

Much like the tremendous "Tunic" it's missing some of that je ne sais quoi that would turn a pretty damn good game into a legendary one.

An astoundingly good game so far and it's early access. My only complaint is that the video performance can get incredibly chuggy for no discernible reason. That will obviously improve with a performance pass later in the development cycle.

A turn based tactics, conversation heavy CRPG with deep investment into systems, interfaces and peculiarities that even alienated gamers more than two decades ago?

A game that is utterly full of all the things that grognards and hateful people despise: the very definition of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in storytelling, representation and cultural landscaping?

A game without (real) DLC, microtransactions and spent years languishing in early access while the developers said "when it's ready" to both fan demands and corporate pressure?

So of course, it rightly won every game award in the universe while being the most wildly leftist game since Disco Elysium.

This game is a constant reminder that neither game company executives nor the mainstream gaming population really knows what it wants. Game of the decade.

This game is both a tribute to the SWAT games but also an absolute indictment of copaganda and police state's crushing feelings of inadequacy and fear. Even better, I am absolutely sure that the developers did not intend to insert this scathing takedown of police culture in their hoo-rah tactical shooter.

Despite the police taking up 80% of all tax dollars paid to municipalities and despite the real life statistic that SWAT teams do more harm than good nine-times out of ten, this game casts the ersatz Los Angeles SWAT team as some sort of plucky upstarts: underfunded, undermanned, but at the same time overtrained and utterly competent.

In this game, find yourself in the settings of FOX NEWS alarmist think pieces, facing off against Dagoth Ur's second amendment army ("Dagoth Ur's Nyx Hound Gets Shot by the ATF") in the backdrop of homeless encampments, furry hacker compounds and at the gathering places of leftist armies. You face off against at least a dozen, heavily armed and sometimes armored enemies in a situation that is disgustingly unfair and hilariously unrealistic.

This game is a fantasy game, as unrealistic as World of Warcraft or Jedi : Fallen order. None of it reflects reality and is so hilariously clumsy in it's messaging that it really can't stand in as copaganda. But what it is, is a competent tactical FPS that is actually fun to play.

Play it, laugh at it, curse the overtuned AI and its ability to see through walls & headshot you while flailing weapons around & sprinting sideways... and don't worry about the implications. This game is too stupid to actually make a point.

Lacks depth in maps and gameplay objectives, but all the weapons and classes are deeply satisfying. Too bad the game was abandoned in 2021 and the developers are horrible. Putting in the [Wehrmacht] soldier skins is a great way for incels and garbage people to out themselves, and for the developers to out themselves.

It's the 21st century, we don't need to portray the WWII German army as heroes in any fashion.

One of those rare games where after I finish it, I just want to start playing it again.
