I've been playing Hunt for years now on and off through lots of updates and events. I like to consider myself fairly decent and sit around 5 star and mostly play to have fun, tho I still have my competitive edge haha. I've always loved this game, even if it gut punches me sometimes. Hunt giveth, hunt taketh.

Hunt 1896 split itself in half with one part sprinting up the heavenly gates of wonderful game design, gunplay, map design, modeling, textures, world building etc. With the other half falling to the depths of hell of AWFUL, HORRID UI and UX of what a lot of people have been comparing it to. Mobile game design. With levels of tedium to just PLAY THE GAME I've never experienced before.

I refuse to believe they actually had a pool of beta testers and had streamers actually play around with this UI. Because if they did? They would of immediately told them to throw it into a trash bin, light it on fire with a flare gun, and concertina bomb it, twice.

Nothing makes sense, buttons aren't even consistent, sometimes it's escape to leave a menu, or enter, or space, or whatever it feels like, it doesn't make sense. Have horizontal menu? just scroll it, oh... wait you can't use the scroll wheel, or when you CAN, it scrolls VERTICALLY FOR SOME REASON??? Even though intuitively, if I have my most over the horizontal thingy and scroll what I'm mousing over and not the whole damn menu! arrgghhh!!!! (this is only ONE thing. Countless of others have already said all the bugs and such you run into.)

Really, all the old UI needed was to be rearranged slightly to support controllers and have it mapped accordingly, the old UI was information dense. I could in just a couple clicks see my teammate's loadouts, their chunks, traits, etc and one big button I could quickly put in that extra regen shot I always forget. There was times it was a bit clunky yeah, but overall most of the old UI was pretty straight forward! there were some times that were a bit buried that lead them to be forgotten, like the black market, trials, etc.

This update for sure isn't all bad. DLSS is a very welcome feature and I love the new look the engine provides. New map is AWESOME, the vertically, the environment, Hellboy is a nice and easy burn trait and the way you find him is neat! Volumetric lighting is so pprettyyyyyy (oooo shiny~!), actually GOOD battle pass, and more!

But man. Chief, this new UI just ain't it. Go back to the old UI. Move some stuff around. revamp it to the 1896 style but roughly the same layout as the old UI and have it recombobulated in a way that makes sense for controller and PC. I don't think it's rocket science. Less inputs to do the thing, the better. The more inputs, the more annoying.

I'mma keep playing because I still really enjoy the game but, ugh, UI. Need I say more?
