Early Access Review
I enjoyed the game before the update. It's not typically my style of game, but I had heard some good things & gave it a try. I found the building to be intuitive and tech / trade was fun. Had a few good combats & I liked harvesting resources after battle. It is pretty cool to be able to adjust the speed, so it seems much more fluid than a 4X game. I'm going through an additional playthrough. They've added the ability to move manufactured items . . . that's good because it's surprising how much room is needed to get everything on board. I'm giving it a thumbs up & a recommend because I think they did a good job for the type of game that it is & I'm seeing active updates at the time of this post. I played it yesterday & there was an update Apr. 29 . . . I wanted to play it after their 20th major update on April 14. Today there was another update fixing bugs & other improvements were made. This is the type of activity players look for when purchasing & I believe these are all good indicators.

Going to add my recommend to the masses.

If you're worried about bad reviews, read them. The few I came across either changed to recommend & couldn't figure out how to edit their review properly, or haven't played the game enough, or even multiplayer. This is fantastic with friends.

Sure there are tasks that need to be repeated, but those can be done by workers that are hired. And just the fact that one dude hammered this out . . . kudos. Encouraging this kind of coder / indi developer is great for gaming. I waited for it to drop off sale & when I saw a family member had it, I picked it up full price & glad I did.

The most recent video appears to be as good as it gets. Sadly, after playing early & after a few initial updates, I seem to feel this will mostly be hype. I'm honestly not sure how much of a bad thing that is, because it is great hype. If you have an itch for more Starship Troopers on a 'More Cowbell' level, this will hit the spot . . . but inevitably leave you wanting.

I'll certainly revisit the title, but as it stood before, even the recent updates & hype videos just aren't having me believe that it's close to what I had hoped the game would be . . . and the exploits were out of control. You'd be in a competitive game & another player would have an automatic rocket launcher with unlimited ammo; we're talking 15+ rockets in the air non-stop hosing rocket flow.

There are redeeming elements, and I'm thankful for the title, but I feel I would be gravely amiss to recommend.

I recommend the game. Thumbs up!

I got it on Steam sale. There were a lot of complaints about "clipping" and glitches. Maybe it was because there was an update the day after I purchased . . . I'm not totally sure, but while I have seen some, the comments seem far more harsh than the reality.

One of the "worst" I've seen happened when milking animals (goats & cows) . . . but as soon as I realized that this only happens when their right side is blocked; I simply make sure their right side is clear before milking. The rest of the glitches just tend to make me laugh.

There was some annoying vehicle AI that would pin me in, but then I realized I could push the car & I just jump out of my car like David Banner & tune them up.

I felt so good about the title, I bought the expansion pack for support. As it stands, the game loop is pretty good. Sure, it's simple . . . but I've had so many hours of fun I feel that it's just good casual gameplay. I felt poor, put in some sweat and muscle & the grind has paid off enough to be building the ranch of my dreams.

A few friends have it and I still haven't tried co-op, but I'm looking forward to it.

Keyboard config in the game could quite possibly be the worst I've ever encountered. I don't use WASD & there are several keys that can not be rebound. For over 35 years I have used the natural hand position on the keyboard, where the index fingers are on the nubs for the index fingers. I'm not sure why it is required for a key like 'E' to be banned from being rebound, but this is a deal breaker. Even if it were not for keys being restricted / locked, the interface would be considered clumsy at best, but I found it to be outright lousy. Pretend you're left handed & would like to change the setup to keyboard input on the right side, just go through a few changes & it would become readily apparent. There are endless ways to approach a user needing custom keys. If this is not the worst I've ever encountered, it's certainly close.

Battlefront from Precursor of Starlight

There will be no negotiation for FREEDOM!

I've been playing with a 4 man crew that all enjoyed the original Helldivers. We're all happy with the Helldivers 2 title & feel they have done well to deliver a good title. The mini games to complete tasks are fun & reminiscent of the original title with some added elements. Combat can get intense, but stratagems are there & can be the right tool for the job to get the mission accomplished.

The bait & switch Sony mandate of an account I am unwilling, or unable to have to play the game has caused me to loose access to this game after purchasing. Turn back. Turn back from all things Sony while you can. There is no freedom to those who follow this path.

Even for Early Access the game is good.

Peers use the term "Tarkov in space", and I can see why . . . ammo is a thing, but not like you need to load every round, it's more simplified than that. The game seems harsh out of the box, and make no bones about it, the game is a PvP experience.

However, when you have no gear, the title has provided several ways to balance the playing field while you get a leg up on some loot. Salvaging & a new "Raiders Mode" game mode that drops you & something like 5 others w/ random gear. The new mode can be launched once every 20 minutes . . . also, there's quite a bit of starting cash & gear to get you going.

The PvP / PvE transition keeps the intensity up & there's a great feeling when you get to know the game-play mechanics & know the levels more. I'd highly recommend running with at least 1 other person you can trust on your side . . . max squad size is currently capped at 4.

This will be my 'earliest' game review. I've been quite impressed with this title from the word go . . . and probably the easiest 'yes' I can think of for a game title. The cut scenes between the action add so much to the experience & the flow of combat & weapon options have given me a gaming experience I am thoroughly enjoying. The cyber punk theme seems to be done incredibly well. . . and I only say 'seems to be' because i don't consider myself to be a knowledgeable person on the cyber punk genre & want to be fair on the review.

Well done "The Ascent"; well done.
