Counter-Strike: Source is one of those games that you don't really buy for the core gameplay; if you want a pure CS experience, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive does a much better job and offers ranked matchmaking for more competitive players. Some people buy CS:S in order to play Garry's Mod and all of its custom game modes properly, but I would urge everyone to buy and play CS:S for all of the custom game modes that the community has developed and refined over the last decade. Sure, most of the game modes have been ported to CS:GO, but they usually aren't as polished or even fun as they are in CS:S.

One game mode that I absolutely love is Surf, which is what approximately 95% of my hours in both CS:S and CS:GO have been dedicated too. If I'm playing this game, chances are I'm surfing on one of the KSF surf servers. But even if you don't surf, there are plenty of other game modes that you can lose hundreds of hours in, if not more. I am honestly recommending this game purely based on my experiences with surfing. If you want to try something new, or just want to chill out and surf, Counter-Strike: Source is always a great choice.
