Just so you know how important this is, I have not written a review on Steam in over 5 years. Let me be perfectly clear when I say: This is shaping up to be one of the most incredible and exciting upcoming indie game projects.

MINDWAVE is a frenzied minigame collection akin to the WarioWare series, but unlike its console inspiration, MINDWAVE is designed for mouse and keyboard, fully taking advantage of that fact with the control schemes for its various minigames. Each minigame is a puzzle that’s incredibly intuitive, giving a short display of what you’ll be using to control before throwing you in with a prompt. Controls are damned tight and responsive, even as the game rockets up in speed and throws its unique gimmicks at you, such as flooding the screen with pop-ups that you’ll barely have enough time to close in-between minigames, or even flipping the screen over and inverting your controls. It can get mind bending fast, and you gotta stay on your toes to keep up the pace, but once you get into a good flow state it’s phenomenal. Thankfully it’s easy to get into that groove thanks to the immaculate sound design from Dorkus 64. Minigames and music are all tied together and interwoven incredibly, keeping players in the zone.

But the game goes deeper than a simple collection of minigame high score challenges, giving us a small tease into the first section of its story mode to provide insight into the world of MINDWAVE, as well as to show off some of the characters who inhabit it, each with their own offbeat and charming dialogue branches. The level of polish on display here is remarkable. Your time is limited in the lobby before progressing, so you have to choose which characters you’d most like to interact with. Choices you make in dialogue, even the order of characters you interact with, seemingly influence how conversations play out. There’s an air of mystery surrounding the game, one that the devs aren’t keen on showing in full and instead letting the fans lose their minds as they wait to experience it for themselves (once the game is fully complete that is).

Megalo, the mastermind behind the project, is nothing less than a visionary. His art is bold, sharp, and uniquely stylized, giving off incredible energy while still invoking feelings that are reminiscent of the inspirations that fuel his creative genius. His character designs and artstyle are incredibly varied, and absolutely extraordinary. Dorkus64, as stated earlier, is an insanely fun and talented musician, and you could not have gotten a more fitting composer for the project. Always down for SICK and BOPPIN’ beats. Also gotta shoutout the programmers Mook (also the manager) and Milkshake, as well as the writers Starmy and Mizu, and the rest of the people contributing to the project. Everything about this project is top tier stuff and I genuinely cannot wait to see what more gets cooked up from the team as the game continues development.

Final verdict for the demo: I hit top of the leaderboard and now I can’t stop/10

Go play it right now. It's short, but well worth your time

Early Access Review
I would never say that rogue-likes are my favorite style of game. I've played hours upon hours of multiple different rouge-likes (Binding of Isaac, Enter the Gungeon, Dead Cells) yet they never filled me with a sense of progression and achievement that one would normally get from that style of games. Risk of Rain is special though. Progress in the game isn't walled off because you haven't unlocked the best weapons or items yet. This game feels as though it focuses more on every other aspect aside from collectibles and unlockables. Right from your first playthough it's absolutely possible, and far more likely than any other rouge-like that I've played, to make it through each stage and loop back to the first. The game makes you feel SO good about playing skillfully rather than just happening to get some overpowered item.

Apart from the gameplay though, I'd like to say that this is atmospherically one of the best games I've ever played, period. The stage design, openness, music, sound design, and everything flows so perfectly together. This is also what made me adore the first game so much. Good god I adore the soundtrack for these games, they're so friggin amazing.

On top of all this, multiplayer is an absolute blast. A roguelike with true multiplayer, rather than just intrusive couch co-op is an absolute blessing. Do yourself a favor and get this game. Then buy 3 more copies and give them to friends. It's what I did :)

The great thing about this game is in it's simplicity, yet it's still very challenging. The world creation is beautiful, and the pixel graphics flow together extremely well in every environment. The gameplay is simple. It's a ton of boss fights. Imagine Shadow of the Collosus but with pixelated graphics and a top down 2D point of view. It's essentially what this game is. One cool thing about the game is, everything, EVERYTHING dies in one hit. Every boss has one weak point that you must find and exploit, and you can only get hit once before respawning. It's very fun and the boss fights are quite well designed.

What can I say? It's TF2 for christ sake! There is no reason you shouldn't have this game. It takes awhile to get into the groove of it, but once you're there, you just can't stop. It's fast-paced and requires good teamwork. Very fun!

Imagine Minecraft. Now Imagine it in 2-D. That's basically this game, but this has tons more materials and bosses. It's not as easy to get lost in this game, but once you start playing, you just have to keep going until you've reached the highest level.
