A Dota 2 match gone horribly awry.

Run Zeus Run is what happens when your Zeus wasn't able to farm properly, and is now attempting to get back to the game by running like hell and getting as much gold as possible while avoiding the far stronger carries like Night Stalker, Faceless Void and Shadow Fiend. Thankfully he hacked and can pack some really strong ultimates with a fast cooldown to boot, so all's good.

Dota 2 lingo aside, this is your typical runner game where you're holding on for as long as you can. You have an attack, but it won't always work, so expect some "technical hiccups" that'll mess up your streak every now and then. It's also an achievement spam game, with dozens of them being earned randomly. As if there aren't enough of those already.

Not worth your time.

Otome Visual Novel with nice twists.

AIRIS has great artwork, funny banter, enjoyable music and alright characters. But what makes this one stand out from the rest is the interesting plot. It wasn't enough to make me play it multiple times, but with three wildly different branching paths and multiple minor endings, it encourages replayability better than most free VNs on Steam.

You're Aliya, a great warrior of AIRIS, who must protect the kingdom from any threats along with your guild members, the Vassals. If you've ever played MMORPGs you'll feel right at home here, but I'm keeping the main twists spoiler free because I found them good enough to remain unrevealed.

Worth having a look.

Good effort, but ultimately boring.

Echoes of the Fey Episode 0: The Immolation is a preview of a an adventure series which combines some elements from Visual Novels and point and click. I feel it was nicely implemented, gave you more to do than just casually clicking away and reading the story. The "voice acting" (if you can call it that) was really grating though, since the characters wouldn't read their lines out loud, just either grunt or say a variation of what you're about to read. This happened very frequently and quickly got annoying.

The plot itself is nothing groundbreaking. You're thrust into this world at war between its human and Leshin (elven) inhabitants, with your character acting as a mediator between both sides.

While I liked the hybrid style of gameplay, I didn't find the story interesting enough to want to find out more about it.

Nicely drawn but unintuitive.

Sprout is a short point and click adventure where you, as a small seed, must travel across the world to join your oak brothers.

I like the way that it's drawn, and it is charming, but I ended up having to click all over the place, with no rhyme or reason, just to get through it. And yes, that can be a staple of the genre, but I resent it personally.

Hope it gets a sequel someday.

OH MY GOD, LOOK AT THIS KNIGHT is a hilarious short journey where this bumbling well intentioned knight comes to town looking to uphold valor and honor.

Which of course means trampling people's crops and murdering the livestock!

Ruining these poor people's lives under the false belief that you're doing good was really fun and a concept that I feel hasn't been done enough.

Worth looking into.

So Hentai that I was almost expecting tentacles at some point.

Welcome to Eternal Hour: Golden Hour, the double episode teaser for an upcoming Visual Novel where you play as either Rin or her teenage nephew Yasu.

Both episodes rely on this strange mark in a cave by the beach, a lazy plot point that just gives you an excuse to see these characters make out and have sex while none of it really making sense. Bad hentai, basically, but without the animation.

It's not all bad though. Excluding the story, the technical aspects of this Visual Novel, especially one that is free, are actually really good. It has fully voiced audio which suited the characters and was a welcome addition. The artwork's top notch, and the ladies are nicely drawn which for a game like this is a must since it's the only thing it can rely on.

I played this for the easy achievements, but other than that, I don't see why you'd want to waste your time with this. If they keep the quality of the artwork and get a better plot later on, then it could have potential.

So short that there's no reason not to try it!

You're a mammoth and you're trying to protect your children and indeed your species from being extinct.

Pesky human hunters will jump in and try to kill them. They might be successful.

You might end up killing them all and destroying their home, while cursing in vain the futility of your mission.

All deep stuff for something that lasts less than 15 minutes. Nicely done.

Twisted but believable.

Six Days of Snow is a Kinetic Novel where you play as Tanabe Eiji, a washed-up writer who is staying six days in an isolated inn in the mountains, in an attempt to escape his stressful and uneventful life in the city as well as to provide some space from his stagnant and failing marriage.

What started out as a few days of peace eventually devolves into chaos as Tanabe becomes deeply infatuated with a young girl named Reiko, who happens to be the strict and overprotective inn owner's mother.

The game explores this uneven and ultimately toxic relationship between the two: Tanabe makes Reiko his muse and inspiration, but can't deny his attraction towards her while Reiko realizes that Tanabe may be his ticket out of a miserable and depressing existence.

It's definitely not a happy story and it's supposed to make you feel uncomfortable while reading it at times, but it is something that could happen so I'll give it credit where credit's due. The writing's a bit hit and miss, and the music has a very calm and traditional Japanese feel to it which suits the setting, which has some really nice scenery.

Good effort for free.

Short but effective.

Robin is a free and extremely short game showing a weekend in the life of someone with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. You have to choose how to spend your time as you interact with the objects in your bedroom.

However, you're not going to be able to tackle every task that your character feels that needs to be done. So something's going to have to give. How you choose to manage your time is what will determine your ending.

Now, I think we've all had some cases of procrastination in our lives, but Robin does make it clear that it's not just a case of laziness that can be fixed with some holidays or better time management skills.

It felt like the main character was imprisoned, seen most notably every single time you go to sleep. All the unfinished tasks you chose to skip, which is anything from feeding your pet bird (Robin) to not getting work done are given some very self-critical thoughts, which spirals into an attempt to try harder. However, the overwhelming amount of things to do are just too much for one person to handle. Thus turning into a vicious cycle which tears away at your self-esteem for being "unable to get anything done".

For a game that lasts around 10 minutes, it sure has a lot of food for thought. Give it a try.

And last, but not least, for anyone who might identify themselves a little too much with this game, hang in there. You're okay just the way you are. :)

One of Telltale's best.

If you've ever played a Telltale game in your life, you should know the drill by now: Mostly linear story, QTEs, few elements of point and click and interactivity, choices and consequences which can be very contriving because they always feel the need to shove in someone angry at you for what you've done, even if it makes complete sense to basically everyone else. Sometimes they have an ending, sometimes they don't, so that you can buy the second game to resolve issues that should have been dealt with in the first entry (looking at you, Game of Thrones).

At their worst, they can be a totally vapid cashgrab making bank off of loyal fans. Other times they can be a nice use of the franchises they're basing their games on, with some powerful moments. Like the Walking Dead Season One, which is still my favorite Telltale game.

The Wolf Among Us, however, is a bit of an anomaly. Most of you probably didn't know or care about the Fables comic books before you saw this game, so you can't really say Telltale's banking on fan hype. Instead, we get an actual gritty, unforgiving and compelling story set in an original setting where your everyday fairytale characters like Snow White and Beauty and the Beast have to learn how to adapt to the real world.

Naturally, some of these characters, including talking animals would be very conspicuous if we, mere humans, were to find out they were real. So, rules have to be made. And rules have to be enforced. This is where you come in. From the tale of Little Red Riding Hood, you come in, as Bigby Wolf, the Big Bad Wolf, sheriff of Fabletown, trying to keep the unruly in line and the Fables' secrecy. This includes beating up whoever's misbehaving, or making sure that the non-human Fables who want to stay in town wear a magical disguise to appear like a person.

That all changes however, when one of the Fables gets murdered. Now it's a mystery. And most of these people can't be trusted. There's something about the setting and story that quickly hooked me in. Some usual Telltale silliness will still be seen here, with moping angry characters over logical decisions, but it's mostly harmless in this game. It also surprisingly does branch out quite a bit according to some choices you make, where you may skip some locations entirely. It thankfully also has a satisfying ending.

I like this one a lot. Doesn't pull on your strings like TWD would, but it sure keeps your interest. Definitely worth checking out, especially now with Season 2 looking on the horizon. Let's hope it lives up to the first game's potential.
