PSA: We have players on Steam sending fake YouTube links. If you get a message from an [unknown] player, BLOCK THEM. The link installs a keylogger/virus that can cause serious damage to your rig and access your personal info such as passwords and CC info.


How to spot them:
1. Steam will ask you to allow or block communications with them first before viewing the message (because they aren't on your Friends List). Viewing the message itself doesn't trigger the installation of the virus, but clicking on the provided link does.

2. Right click their name in the chat window, it will say "NOT FRIEND" in yellow text. I know there are folks out there who are curious, but don't go any further than viewing the message. You WILL regret it.

I'm sending this to EVERYONE on my friend list, because I know most people don't check the "Friend Activity" section. I advise you do the same to keep 'em safe. LET EVERYONE KNOW ABOUT THIS!!!

There are users on Steam who are sending links to "pictures" which instead take you to a website that automatically downloads an .scr file; .scr files are script files and are VERY likely to contain trojans, RATs, and other dangerous viruses. If someone sends you a link that has picture.png (these are the more common ones) in the link I highly advise that you DON'T CLICK ON THE LINK. It will redirect you to a blank page and your browser will automatically download the .scr file. The file itself doesn't do any harm to your PC until you open it so if you happen to find yourself downloading an .scr file, DELETE IT IMMEDIATLEY!!!!!!!! I scanned the file with my virus protection and it didn't pick up any threats, but since I didn't know what an .scr file was (it was my first time coming across one) I decided to do some research and came here right after to warn you guys. If anyone sends you an .scr, REMOVE THEM, BLOCK THEM, AND REPORT THEM.
