As a veteran of many other games within its genre and the titles that inspired Birth ME Code in the first place, I can say with certainty that this game is a breath of fresh air for fellow mystery fans through the fun, memorable, and unique experiences it so passionately provides. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Birth ME Code both as a story and a source of challenging puzzles alike, and feel that the game has well-earned its pricetag.

As other reviews may focus on the overall game or the story itself, I've decided to focus on two points instead without directly delving into spoilers - the puzzles and the cast.

Puzzles

The puzzles in Birth ME Code are as clever as they are satisfying to solve.

Puzzles in this game, while sharing a similar format with one another, feel incredibly varied in regards to their manner of problem solving and solutions. You'll need to do combination of sideways thinking, take your questions and hints literally, and try not to fall into the easy trap of thinking everything is an anagram. Some of these puzzles got me stuck for up to an hour without using both hints provided, but also gave me such a hefty dose of feel-good chemicals from my brain when I ultimately solved them that made the time spent feel incredibly worth it and satisfying.

Fortunately for people who aren't too good at puzzles but don't want to outright read a guide, using both hints provided in "panel" puzzles will pretty much outright tell you how to solve it. Since these typically occur at branching choices in the story, if you get really stuck on something you most likely have the choice of a couple others to tackle instead while you take a break from a notorious headscratcher. I'd personally recommend against using both hints for puzzles if you love the feeling of a good dopamine hit unless you really just want to get back to the story, but I personally only found myself having to use both hints on 2 different instances pretty late into the game.

Cast

If you enjoy interesting takes on the classic "deadly sins" motif and horrible people animals duking it out against one another, you'll find that Birth ME Code's cast has plenty of tension and surprises to offer.

Each character in the game has an associated sin, as well as a personal dark secret that ties them to it. Some characters are more obvious than others when you first meet them, but others may have you asking yourself "Why is this character Greed?" or something similar. This makes finding out these ties pretty satisfying as you play through the game, but are overall more character important than plot important.

The game also tells you straight up that everybody is a scumbag - but it's how these scumbags act out their scumminess under the circumstances of the story that makes it interesting. You might learn that leaving certain scumbags alive too long is bad news and decide to kill them off early in another route, only for another scumbag to start causing problems instead as a result. This ultimately leads to a tense and chaotic atmosphere where no branch of the flowchart feels dull, just as witnessing every outcome and finally seeing a character get their inevitable comeuppance is sweetly satisfying.
