A little buggy but a lot of love went into this.

What else can I say? I love all the little interactions between the characters, both in-party and out. The writing is very much on target. There are definitely some design flaws in level layout, especially late game, where the camera just refuses to sit at a useful angle, which can make for some unnecessary frustration.
There are also a handful of freeze bugs, where the game appears to be waiting for something to happen but never triggers it. In 26 hours of play I've had two freeze bugs on object interaction, one mid conversation, and one in the middle of a battle. The Enter button still works, so you can still save and quit, thereby not losing any progress, but with the long load times that can still be a barrier to full enjoyment.

With those complaints in hand, I still very much recommend this game to both casual RPG fans in general and Steven Universe fans in particular. Well worth the cover price.

(Note: I have a tiny playtime because I don't want to buy the game twice--I have easily dozens of hours of playtime on the mobile version)
This game is simply beautiful. The mechanics are tight, with some minor quirkiness that can be avoided simply by choosing not to exploit. The story will readily hold your attention, and the animation and style are gorgeous.
My favorite aspect, though, has to be the voice acting. While the translation from the original chinese is in general acceptable, a little bit of near-engrish slips in, particularly in the spoken lines. The actors themselves appear to have flawless English skills, but still read their lines just as they were written, resulting in some endearingly nonsensical outbursts from NPCs, such as the abominable snowman who cryptically announces "The snow monster is in love with the stove" when you engage him, or the fire elemental who warns you that "I am neither stove ash, nor coal cinder."
I strongly recommend picking up the DLCs, as each new class has its own unique playstyle and is very much like a different game, but you can comfortably get your feet wet without spending a dime.
Pay attention to the bits of dialogue you hear in a playthrough, but also take the time to read the monster bios accessible from the main menu, to see if you can piece together what really happened to your poor old grandma.

The first rule of making games, I've been told, is to never interfere with the connection between the player and the game. This is why loading screens have become interactive, why goofy things like messing with your inputs during gameplay has largely disappeared, basically why immersion has become paramount in modern games.
Tobyfox learned this lesson and then decided to one-up the entire industry.
Undertale is a game that blew away preconceptions I didn't even realize I -had- and exceeded expectations that have always been unspoken assumptions, a status quo I never even noticed was there.
It connected me to the game in a way that no game ever has before, and I expect no game ever will again.
One word of caution: You do NOT want spoilers for Undertale. No walkthroughs, no hints, no asking your friend/sibling to help you 'beat the hard part.'
Nothing, at least until you've played through a couple times. I'm not being a 'video game snob' here, it REALLY IS important to the story, and Undertale tells a story that will pull you into it in dramatic fashion. It's well worth the price of admission so please, do yourself a favor and BUY THIS GAME.
