**SPOILERS**

Definitely a step-down from the original Subnuatica but a great game nonetheless. The creatures in this game are far less terror-inducing, aside from the shadow leviathan of course. The base building was a huge step up in my opinion with the addition of the large room, which gave the player a huge jump in creativity. As for gameplay, the beginning of exploring the world is much in the same where you feel helpless. This is quickly shut down when you find out you aren't alone on this planet, unlike the first game. The quests feel justified and you are rewarded for your efforts which moves the game along quickly. To my disappointment at the end of the game, I found that I never even used my prawn suit as it wasn't needed in any aspect, all of the resources can be found by hand which creates no need for the prawn drill. The sea truck can go as deep as you need it to go for the whole game, which also made the prawn suit useless. Lastly, the perimeter defense system on the sea truck makes going past shadow leviathans super easy and unsatisfying. Also, the ice worm is so overdone I think they really missed this one it's such a good creature, and the idea of there being a land leviathan is super cool but it just gets super annoying that it knocks you off the snow fox every single time. Now for the story, I feel like they needed to pick a story and run with it. There seems to be three mini-stories with each of them fighting for your attention throughout the game, those being Marguerit, Al-An, and Sam. Also, Robin talking during the whole game was a good addition it gave character as opposed to Ryley in the first game being silent. Furthermore, The story of Marguerit being tied back to the first game through the Degasi crew was nice to get some closure on what happened to that crew. But at the end of the game she feels useless you learn a few things about her and just leave her there without saying goodbye or anything right after you gain her trust. I think her story should have been told in the form of PDA's with the remnants of her base being left behind. The main reason you come to this planet is to find Sam your sister, but halfway through the game, it feels like we are in the full force of finding Al-An a new body so Sams's arc gets pushed to the side. I think the way they handled Sam at the end was well done with PDA's of her being throughout the map giving you the reasons she died why she was on 4546B. Then completing her work by giving the cure to the frozen leviathan was a nice ending to her story. Now for the main story of getting Al-An's body was really well done, throughout the game you aren't totally sure to trust him or not cause he resist answering some of your questions, and his people shot down the Aurora in the first game for gosh sake. It was cool to get some insight on him and his people through the whole game as they were a huge question in the first game. Finding the parts and building his body progressed the game nicely and was a lot like building the rocket which I really enjoyed. Learning that Al-An was one of the reasons that the Kharaa got out was really fulfilling after playing the first game. Without dragging this on much longer the ending of going home with Al-An was awesome, seeing the tech that Precursors have was super cool, in my opinion, this sets up another game perfectly there is so much about the Precursors that we don't know that I'm dying the learn about them. After all, I would give this game an 8/10 with the first game being at 9/10.

Truly one of the most immersive games I've ever played, whether you are in the shallow water or in water that you can't see 10 ft in front of you, you are always on edge. This game makes you feel small, unlike most games where you are always the apex predator. The true terror of seeing a new fish that you have no idea what they can do to you it's captivated in this game beautifully. The story and such is actually pretty deep and when you pick up all the collectibles around the world you get another layer of understanding what really happened. But my favorite part is the base building, it is absolutely unmatched, so many different ways to make your base your own. There's not any game that I know off that allows you to make underwater structures that seem somewhat realistic. I know a lot of people complain about bugs but during my play-through in early 2020 I didn't come across one bug at all. I have been looking for a story-line driven game that was force-fed with sprinkles of base building and exploration for years, and I can safely say that this game has checked all those boxes for me.
