Early Access Review
I originally picked up Automation before it came to Greenlight, and even back then I was recommending it to car-nerd friends of mine.

As it stands at the moment, 23rd July 2015, what you get is a car design system. Giving you the ability to design vehicles in a period ranging from 1940 through to 2020, with a variety of different technologies and materials becoming available with time.

I'd talk though all the various parts of the designer screens, but there's enough videos on youtube by now for you to actually see it for yourself. However I will say that it's quite an intuitive system. The body designer is simple enough that just about anybody can make something they like. While the engine designer is willing to give you enough hand holding to talk you though why your design keeps exploding - and how to fix that. It's even able to show you how to develop a better engine for what you want to achieve. Want to build a high revving lightweight engine for use in a sports car? It gives you enough information to figure out how to do that. Want a heavy duty low-revving truck engine? Or an economy car engine? Same thing.

What it doesn't yet have is an actual career mode. And yes, that probably means that as it stands right now it's more of a design tool rather than an actual game. But I'm confident that the guys behind this thing can get it done, given how much progress they have made already in the time I've been watching them.

Is it worth the money?

If you're a car nerd I'd say it is, but if you want to wait till they've got the career mode done I'd entirely understand your apprehension.
