Biased review from a long-time fan of KF.

The Good:
  • It's only $40, which is important, because I think if it was $60 or $70 I would not recommend it.
  • The core gameplay loop is still intact. Shoot a lot of dudes, crap your pants when a fleshpound shows up, restock and upgrade at the trader.
  • Time slowing down is still present and fun. There is really nothing as satisfying as mag-dumping an automatic shotgun into a scrake's face during bullet time, feels as great as KF1/2.
  • Downtime at the trader pod still often devolves into people spamming money voice lines and throwing around wads. This is a core part of the Killing Floor experience.
  • INSTEAD OF DYING INSTANTLY, YOU ARE DOWNED AND CAN BE REVIVED BY TEAMMATES. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ FINALLY!
  • Modern movement updates (sidestep, slide, mantle) feel good, but knife&sprint is still viable if you don't have movement ADHD.
  • Enemies seem faster and smarter with their pathing so you really need to stay on your toes more. ZEDs feel like they're on my ass faster and more often than KF1/2.
  • I personally like the new look of the ZEDs, and I think them having their own cybernetics is way better than just shoehorning in some robot enemies like KF2 did.
  • There's KIND OF a story campaign? A series of missions that takes you through each map doing secondary objectives. It's not amazing but it's more than KF1&2 had.
  • Game is stable and not buggy, which is rare for a game at launch these days...

    The Bad:
  • There are only SIX perks. KF2 had TEN. But at least each perk's skill tree is HUGE. They also each have a unique ACTIVE ABILITY (finally), which they did not have in previous games.
  • You MUST find and break small objects around the map for Crafting Materials to make your Weapon Upgrades (like Warframe...)
  • Incredibly small pool of weapons right now (but at least each weapon is a lot more upgradable/customizable).
  • NO TEXT CHAT? Or even gesture wheel, or voice line menu... Seriously? As far as I can tell it's mic-only. Very lame.
  • Instead of many characters who can all use any perk, in KF3 each perk is their own unique character, and pretty much all of them are boring. The dialogue is not inspiring. It's rarely even cheeky. A long way to fall from KF1's dialogue.

    The Ugly:
  • For-Purchase battle pass with in-game progression. PLUS a daily-refreshed premium-currency store... The battle passes are permanent at least. It's pretty much Helldivers 2's monetization. It could be worse, but it could be better too.
  • To justify the monetization there are lots of cosmetics, but so far they have all been uninspiring. The framework it has is good, but it will probably be a while before there are any cosmetics actually worth buying. KF2 was the same way, and it got it's act together eventually.
  • With how long it was in development, I expected a little more, but... At least it's WAY better than Payday 3 was.

    Overall:
It's fun, it's still Killing Floor, it's worth playing. Not blowing my mind, but I'm having fun, I'm not hating it.
Don't expect a ton of content here at release, but if KF1 & 2 were any indicator, they will be making content for this game for the next decade. It's decent enough work by Tripwire in an era when most other old school shooter devs are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ the bed. Looking at you Payday 3.

    Money money moneyyyyy.~

since it's all the same logic and engine, the game plays pretty much exactly like the original
and it's modding community is already robust
worth the purchase if you like elder scrolls

It's a fun game, but it's definitely not worth $50. I promise you there is not $50 worth of content in this game, not even close. MAYBE $20. Maybe.

The fighting itself is fun, if a bit messy. The netplay currently sucks ass but I'm sure they'll fix it.
