The different routes to get to the end are enjoyable (as a game of this flavour can be) and morbidly interesting to discover but the ending itself... soured the whole experience for me.

Without spoiling too much, the build up to it and the pay off were nearly entirely disconnected. Resulting in what feels like it trying to philosophically and elegantly swandive into a puddle. A real shame.

I bought Origins day one, I'm a long time fan and I was really excited to review this properly when I finished it. Unfortunately, I can't finish the game, even with over 100 hours played, due to a game breaking bug that players have lit up the forums over. It remains unfixed with no word from EA a month later. Get something else on your wishlist.

I was really excited to play this game but I have been extremely disappointed.

As a long time fan of the Platinum studios this feel like a huge back step. The camera is a mess, often angling into the ground, into walls and corners making it less a battle with the enemy and instead the game itself. The bullet hell elements feel very out of place when paired with close combat and the amount of times where I have stood in a fight either in a unit and smashing the sword button or used my pod and stood firing at the enemy and done nothing else is ridiculous. It's boring, unengaging and lazy.

When it comes to the story I don't mind a slow burn and from my first play through, knowing whats to come I am more than willing to wait. Sadly as someone who adores and predominantly plays RPGs I don't think even I can slog through this gameplay when I can go back and play Bayonetta or the DMC series and actually have fun. Because with Automata I just don't.

I don't know how much of these issues are due to the mediorce PC port but regardless of the promise of a great story I can't overlook what feels like a complete chore AND bore to play.
