My first experience with The Witcher series was The Witcher III: Wild Hunt which is fairly modern in terms of mechanics and current standards of gameplay. The Witcher: Enhanced Edition does have a fairly archaic combat system where you must hit the action key when your sword flourishes (flashes) in order to maintain a combo during battles, there are also 3 distinct fighting styles depending on the enemy type. It might feel awkward in the beginning but you have more than enough time in the Prologue to learn these mechanics and by the end of Chapter 1 you should be fairly proficient at combat to where this is no longer a concern.

Cut scenes in particular can be a little bit off feeling due to its age, lip syncing for dialogue isn't perfect and the character models are fairly limited however if this is something you can look past then you should be fine overall. Despite the somewhat janky controls and archaic battle system I find the game very enjoyable, especially as someone who has played similar open world games such as the Elder Scrolls series or even Dragon Age.

If you are the kind of person who enjoys story driven and lore heavy games and enjoyed playing The Witcher III: Wild Hunt I highly recommend you deep dive into the original game. Just because a game does not qualify in terms of today's standards does not mean it has not aged well. The original game is also crucial to anyone who wants to deep dive even further in the world of The Witcher.

Got sucked into this game for hours on end when I first started it up.
Reaching the 70+ hour mark and still tones to do and have the time of my life.

5/5*
