Metal: Hellsinger isn't just a shooter. It isn't just a rhythm game. It is an amalgamation of the two. It's Crypt of the Necrodancer meets DOOM meets Knotfest, and it does it an a way that just makes your brain melt in ecstasy. It even has an intriguing story to go along with everything.

Every song in the base game (along with two of the DLCs as of writing this review), are completely original and made for the game by the amazing Two Feathers, with legendary guest vocalists adding their voice to the already headbanging instrumentals to seriously turn what was already a kickass metal track into a song that would make even God himself put up the devil horns and mosh around. Such metal legends include Alissa White-Gluz (Arch Enemy), Matt Heafy (Trivium), and even Serj MFing Tankian (System of a Down), making this one stacked cast of vocalist to provide voice to what is the BEST of the BEST Quake-like rhythm shooters out there.

The gameplay might appear complex at first, but it's actually quite simple. All songs are in a 4/4 time signature and have varying BPM, which influences how high octane you want your gameplay to be (trust me, if you want to experience what it's like to be on speed after chugging a gallon of coffee, get the Essential Hits pack and put on Misery Business. You won't regret it). You time your shots, dodges, and even reloads to the beat of the song you use in the background, and the better your timing, the more powerful your shots are, or the faster your reloads are! The game rewards perfect timing, and ruthlessly punishes the off-beat player, although there is an option to make everything be at least on beat if you are extremely out of tempo.

In the base game, there are six weapons, ranging from a skull that fires magical blasts of fire that crystallizes enemies in an explosive carapace to a gravity-defying explosive crossbow that you can absolutely annihilate enemies with. For the two genuine Hellsinger DLCs, they come with a weapon each, but you'll have to get the game to check them out for yourselves!

All in all, Metal: Hellsinger is an absolute blast if you're a big fan of metal music, or a DOOM/Quake fan. If you're both, then this will DEFINITELY be up your alley. You'll waste many hours on this and realize that the time slipped by after bashing your neck sore from the intensity.

Gameplay? 10/10
Aesthetic? 10/10
Performance? 10/10 (It lags a bit, but this is only because I have a baseline computer, and even then it was minimal.)
Music? 100/10
