Early Access Review
This would be a fun game if basic mechanics didn't constantly go haywire and destroy everything that you have worked on. Ships fly off into space randomly or stop working all together and things generally do not work like they should 30% of the time. Great game if it worked - horribly frustrating when it doesn't. Not sure how they screwed the game up in the past 2 years to make it as unplayable as it is now. Thank God they are working on new sounds, though, and not real issues.

Overall, Galactic Civilizations III is very fun and engrossing. There is a very steep learning curve for those of us who have never played a previous incarnation of the franchise. Looking at the tech tree for the first time or ten can be a bit overwhelming. After playing through a game to learn the basics (set the AI to beginner on an insane size map and you can learn the basics without becoming too angry), the game becomes simple enough to be enjoyable. One final tip: don't play a multiplayer game as your first game like I did. The turns end up taking forever and many of the games I have played since involve hundreds of turns!

Sins of a Solar Empire has become one of my favorite RTS games. The multiplayer is the main reason why I continue to come back. Some complain about the lack of campaign missions, but the game itself is more than adequate for the money considering how much time will be spent playing it.
