as a fan of the first game, i wasnt sure if it would work in 3D
and even in early acces its already reeling me in for 2 hours rounds by minimum.

this is a game that makes you feel like a wimp when you start.
but like a damn beefcake on super steroids after a while of playing!
with randomized items ( for the most part)
different characters with different playstyles that require different item combos to work to optimal performance!

improvements :
bandit and sniper added, snipers damage scaling must be awesome for a game like this.
+ maybe a way of dropping items if you got a bad pickup, or even destroy em in stead of dropping.
some more area variety + map size maybe?

overall i give it a solid 9

crashes all the time,
your edit projects are saved locally and not in the cloud, in case you wondered.
its just too simple and has to be made into a decent program with a plugin download that people charge for.
sapphire plugin has a lot of things i'd expect to be in the program by default.

Edit : i emailed them with the complaint i had, never got a response.

the dark souls of the 90s

i played this for 5 hours on stream for my first session, the only reason i stopped is because i was exhausted and needed to sleep.
i ADORE this game! hope to see it grow more in the future and have it become as big of a phenomena as lets say subnautica

As somebody that knows the lore of dragonball very very well, the jokes in this game and kind of stabs at some of the errors in the lore are so freaking good i got to make it the first thing you read in this review

the second thing is : no ps4 controller support (thats inexcusable in 2018)

the gameplay is very fast paced 2D fighting with graphics that are absolutely amazing.
the specials are great and make nods to the source material in ways i did not expect to see in todays age of gaming where developers take the safe route with the bare minimum.
this game goes above and beyond and the people that know the shows will be rewarded for that.

though there are some lip sync errors when you set the language to anything but japanese.
especially goku black when you get the intro scene is having more talking animation for 3 seconds after his line is done.
a very minimal complaint, maybe even nitpicky.

as a casual with fighting games but a dragonball fanatic, this game doesnt fail with pleasing both. i can see the deeper system with combo linking and even do some combos of my own wich im sure arent anything special but the way it is presented makes it feel sooooo epic!

after playing this ''game'' i can say it is quite something i havent experienced before.
but im sure you already know at this point that this game isnt your average virtual novel.

so to keep spoilers to a minimum :
it starts out as you expect a virtual novel to start.
but going in with every passing hour if you pay attention to the story, things already seem a little.....off
that only gets multiplied the deeper you go.

fun fact : if you have obs open the ''game'' will know.
it will mess with you, be very aware

People like to write this game off as a bad version of ''dead by daylight''
i say : no
this game has enough differences for me to like it even better than dead by daylight!

heres why :
1) the maps are WAY bigger

2) you escape options are varried, whereas in DbD its always the same

3) there is 1 killer character but various versions of him with upsides and downsides giving it depth.

4) the atmosphere feels like an old slasher film (wich is the source material that i like)

5) the perk system is more accesible than DbD and fair.

6) the counselor have different stats wich makes some of them good at repairing while others are better fighters or runners

7) it makes for a great tool to craft stories with for videos, making me able to take 1 session and write an entire story around it, the character, setting. etc,

8) you can stun the killer with various weapons, blunt weapons doing the best stun damage,

9) the killer has abilities like
teleport anywhere on the map,

sensory vision (highlights players through terrain or shows the shelter they are in),

shift (you become invisible and travel very fast)

stalk (your prey dont hear your footsteps nor approaching music giving you the element of surprise)
besides that you have throwing knives as the killer, and beartraps

10) the kill animations that go from ''omg thats brutal'' to ''lmao you throw someone through a window and they die?''

overall : its not a perfect game, but i like it enough to play it with joy!

if you think its too expensive, add to wishlist and wait for a sale

i love to hate this game.
the graphics, music & style are so good!
but the game is unbelievably challenging, there are more bossbattles in this game than in a final fantasy game,
it supports local co-op but it makes the game harder,
(it supports your ps4 controller as soon as you plug it in with the right buttons, a definite +)

the graphics look like a 1930's cartoon, and i love that because i grew up having those on some tv channels, and the jazzy soundtrack adds to that feeling. its awesome!

it has run & gun levels with coins you use to buy more sidegrades, yes sidegrades.
these sidegrades can change your weapon, wich you have 2 slots for. damage varries per projectile type.
long range usually is punished with lower damage while medium to short range tend to do the highest damage.
and there are no checkpoints, you die = back tot he beginning of the level, that said : there is no game over

you also have super moves wich you charge by shooting at enemies and you can unleash it with O (or B on xbox)
if you charge up your supers to the max you can unleash a ultimate attack wich does massive damage, or make you invincible. be warned because you are open to damage the milisecond the move is over and it WILL cause your death.

then there is the meat and bones of the game, the boss battles. this is the majority where the frustration comes in.
you have a parry move that you use by pressing the jump button while in the air, you can interact with pink objects to bounce off of them, most parrys will give you a super attack charge, excluding some boss projectiles.
the boss battles have 2 playstyles,
1 : you play it like you play a run and gun level, sidescrolling
2 : you get a plane with infinite ammo that can shrink with the dash move. and its like a sideways shooter.

so in conclusion : its a very challenging game and not recommended for people that dont like platformers or that ragequit easily.
this game WILL kick your behind harder than prison cellmates

a solid 10/10
