I don’t write many reviews, but I felt this one was worth it.

If you came in expecting an EU4 reskin, this is not that game. EU5 is very much its own experience with its own design philosophy. At first, I wasn’t sure how I felt about it-the pacing felt slow, almost too slow-but it grew on me fast. Paradox absolutely should add more selectable start dates like CK3/EU4, but even without that, the game finds its stride.

I’ll be honest: the first 30 years feel rough. But if you push through, the game opens up. I’m currently 110 years into a multiplayer campaign with two friends, and it continues to throw fresh challenges, tough decisions, and meaningful gameplay at us.

What EU5 Gets Right

Strong base content -It’s impressively solid for a Paradox launch.

Tech tree with real agency - Tech choices actually matter instead of just clicking a level-up slider.

CK3-style leaders and events - Keeps you engaged and reacting to internal dynamics.

Lots of systems to manage -Deep enough to be overwhelming at first, but automation helps you learn at your own pace. (Trade is a beast, but rewarding.)

Thoughtful military gameplay - Battles require planning. This is not a map-painting click-fest.

What Needs Work

Colonization feels rough - Mostly due to how control spreads.

UI needs serious improvement -Clunky, unintuitive, and often unhelpful.

Bugs - Not game-breaking, but definitely present. (My Catholic Portuguese queen converting to Sunni with zero events was a highlight.)

AI inconsistency -Competent as an enemy, shockingly stupid as an ally.

Military & diplomatic UI — Embarkation is messy, visibility is unclear, and a dedicated diplomatic mode is badly needed.

To conclude:
All things considered, this is the strongest base launch Paradox has put out since CK3—and honestly, maybe better given how little CK3 has evolved over five years. EU5 has huge potential. Don’t get dragged down by the doom reviews; most are either not Paradox fans or hardcore EU4 purists upset it isn’t a copy-paste sequel.

If you give EU5 room to breathe and meet it on its own terms, it’s a genuinely rewarding strategy game with a bright future.

Far Horizon Stands as a testament to the power of creative collaboration, birthed from the shared vision of two brothers who set out to turn their dream of game development into reality. It's got a jank, almost nostalgic feeling, of playing a game for the first time. To know two guys made this, one being the greatest skyrim mod creators of all time (hothtrooper44), leads you to believe that there will be more to come from these guys and this is just the first game. Visuals are great, game play loop is satisfying and in general I have enjoyed my time with it thus far. If anything support these guys for future development with more to come, look forward to future projects with them!

People will have their opinions on this game, it's missing some basic stuff (profile, stats, etc.), but it's a well crafted card game. One in which will be like any other DCG that doesn't hide what it is selling you. A table top inside DCG with a limited way of trade using the market place. I say this is a niche game for a heavy group of card players, me included. Casual's it is to note, that this game is worth 20 bux if you just want to get 4 friends to meet online once a week (or more w/e), and play a "sealed draft." Every game feels like you could have made a different play. At the end of the way, it's a great game and the pay model shouldn't scare most of you.
