This is a special game to me. As of the time of this review, it's my favourite game when it comes to telling a story. If you are aware of the "trend" of quirky RPGs inspired by Earthbound covering themes of depression, then I would call this one of them, along with games like Omori, Undertale, One Shot, Off, etc. You get the point.

Of these games, In Stars and Time would probably be very low on the list when it comes purely to the gameplay aspect. I won't lie, it's not the games biggest strength, and the somewhat low variety of enemies does not help this point, so the combat gets stale after a while - though I'd argue that enhances the immersion. If gameplay is what you like most about your games, then maybe this one is not for you.

That said, In Stars and Time has the most fleshed out world out of any of these RPGs I've played so far. Everything was so well thought out, and the culture of the countries presented feel complex and multilayered, I would definitely point this out as one of the biggest positive points of this game. However, the world would, of course, mean nothing if there is no one to inhabit it. The cast of the game is relatively small, but every character is unique and well written, and this game has probably my favourite depiction of a kid in anything ever.

If I were to summarise this game, I would say the main focus is learning. You learn about many things here, and every bit of it is interesting. If you like reading, and like to feel immersed, this is an easy recommendation.

Simply perfect, altough it was made a considerable amount of time ago, it still holds up as an incredible game, with insanely fun mechanics, that are introduced quite regularly. There's also the characters, that in this game are much more relevant and well designed, different from its predecessor. Everything in it is quite perfect, and it sits in the list of my favorite games of all time in the time of this review.

It's the same game, it's just an easier way to play mods. My only complaint is that it is not in the current version yet.

Probably one of the best games I have ever played. I could just stop there but if you need more convincing here you go :

Art :
It's incredibly cute for a game so thematically dark (please don't search the lore before finishing the game, worst mistake of my life), and the few cutscenes are very well animated and a very big contrast to the game itself, with it giving a 3D view of some places you walk through, just giving more perspective to the world you're in.

Music :
The music is very distinct I would say, it's similar to games such as undertale or celeste in my view in that you can recognise where it comes from if you are a little bit familiar with it. Also the godhome versions are insane.

Atmosphere :
For me, this is one of the areas Hollow Knight exceeds in, with every place being distinct in its own way, some even made me scared the first time through, which is rare in my book for a game not advertised as scary or unsettling at first glance. The only other games I can think of that have made me feel similar are Dark Souls 3 and maybe Undertale? Not much I can think of.

Gameplay :
The gameplay is divided in mainly two areas : Exploration and Combat
The exploration part is so fun. Everything is absurdly well conected and after you get the second upgrade you can basically go anywhere if you are dedicated enough, so every playthrough can change in various ways depending on where you go next. Platforming takes an excential part in the fun of exploring, and altough it isn't necessarily dependent of exploration, there are few exceptions of platforming not connected to exploring. Anyways, the controls are very responsive, you can change momentum mid air, pogo off stuff, and do many cool tricks to get where you want to go, and after you get all upgrades, you'll just be sliding everywhere.
Combat is also very exciting, it may not be for everyone as I've seen people who don't like it, but in my opinion it's great. The fights start off a bit slow, but get so frenetic by the end you will almost never stop to breath, and after you master a fight, it becomes a bit of a synchronized dance with the boss in a way, and it's insanely satisfying. The enemies can be a bit same-y, but there are a ton of cool ideas anyways, and they vary sufficiently so it's not much of a bother.

If you actually read through all that I highly recommend buying the game, as it's dirt cheap and has honestly more content than some triple A's out there. When you finish the game go watch mossbag also. And fireborn. And skurry. Anyways bye please play this and see you when silksong drops next century.

9.5/10 (Myla why)

Probably one of the most absurd price to content ratios on the market today. Many people compare this game to Minecraft, and while there is some truth to that comparison, the two games are overall fundamentally different. Minecraft is a game more focused on the intrinsic value of experiences, something like : "Oh, I'm going to build a cool house because I like building things and it's going to be good to look at!", and while Terraria does have its moments of intrinsic value - building in this game is pretty fun in my opinion - there is a whole lot more focus given to the more extrinsic parts of the game, such as a getting a cool weapon because you killed the giant bee boss in the jungle.

When talking about Terraria, one thing that cannot be left out is the modding scene. This doesn't seem to be very well known among those outside of the community, but Terraria has one of the best modding scenes of any game, with full support from the developers, as seen by the modloader being a steam product received for free if you buy the game. When you finish the game for the first time, you could just download a bunch of mods and go nuts, many of them are very impressive and add a ton of content.

If you like sandboxes, and are at least impartial to 2D gameplay, I would highly recommend this.
