"Nowhere to run now, Dan Brown!" and "I'll get you HP Lovecraft!" are things an actual character says to author Alan Wake.

The companies behind this DLC suck. Some of the people behind it, that likely are no longer making money directly from this, aren't so bad. It isn't worth picking up on its own.

A recent update alongside the recent DLC sought to increase parity with console versions, so people on XBox could be able to play with Steam users, for example.

There's just one small problem: there very clearly was very little QA done, what QA was done didn't have its feedback continued. It's rushed in a lot of micro ways that ripple across. It's better to just downpatch the game while waiting for the bug-fix patch. Until that happens, I'm not buying SotS. Prior to this patch and expansion, this was a really good game that I would have Recommended. It's still a fun experience, but the corporate side of things can't convince me to do anything else unless they get their ♥♥♥♥ together and fix things.

Examples of the bugs introduced this patch:
- multiple physics effects now being affected by FPS, including Loader's grab being virtually uncontrollable at high FPS and Blind Pest shot speed being increased drastically at high FPS. At 60/30 FPS, everything is as it should be. If you want things in very high FPS because your monitor and setup can afford it, sorry you get a less polished experience overall. Not as if delta time exists to help this very situation.
- Animation bugs
- Teleporter can be placed in inaccessable areas in some stages, causing a softlock (a bug previously patched)
- whole bunch of bugs relating to SotS content, including invulnerable final boss and making character abilities randomly break with certain items.
- Acrid's jump doesn't work
- connecting a second controller might delete your save data
- XBox users, for the first 3 days of this update, were unable to go past the main menu

(Picked up for dirt cheap in a Humble Bundle. Not quite "free" but pretty close).

A short and sweet roughly 3 hour game, with some extras if you really like it. Story is kinda barebones.

My first experience of this game was in some Celeste mods, which anchored my expectations in weird ways. Also the physics of the character movement feel weird. If one part of the hitbox could be on a platform, you're on a platform even if that doesn't feel right. Also, it occasionally feels like sliding on ice when you're moving and trying to stop, which does hurt a precision platformer if your character moves after pressing the input button, but maybe that's just me sucking at the game.
