I'm not into review bombing games due to admittedly poor statements made by CA staff. I like to review the games themselves instead.

Which to that point: as someone who's practically new to the Total War series, having VERY limited exposure to the historical series, and not being heavily invested into TW:WH previously, I can say pretty firmly that TW:WH3 is the best in the series. I have since tried all three games since purchasing them for the immortal empires map, and not only does WH3 actually have decent onboarding, but it's generally been the most stable game of the trilogy.

Gameplay is as you could expect from a TW game, mixed unit tactics on a battlefield, but with the added bonus of having Warhammer Fantasy factions battling it out and mixing things up. This gives an experience where outside of certain factions steamrolling early game like ogres or Nurgle, even the battles you lose can be fun just due to how wild they can get. The latter is about the only thing I can complain about, as many factions don't get access to anti-large armored units until mid-game, which effectively guts factions like the Empire if not being managed by the player, though that may just be a case of something where Nurgle in particular would be better positioned on the periphery of the map, rather than being yet another faction the Empire has to contend with early game. There's a few older factions which face this problem of too many enemies from all sides basically annihilating them early game leading to lopsided and boring late games from factions that hit their peak power by early/mid, so I'm not exactly sure as to what the solution is to that.

Performance and graphics wise, it works well on my machine™, that having the caveat that I own a 10850k and 3080 12GB build, so really everything performs pretty well on it. I don't imagine older CPUs would have much of a problem though, given the engine is fairly old, and as best I can tell, not very well threaded. I would say some improvement could be done in that regard, but I'm hesitant to be too prescriptive given I don't think the TW formula can heavily benefit from scaling outside of battles, which already seem to perform pretty well.

My only real recommendation to CA is to probably ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ WH2 and WH, and just focus on bringing WH3 up to scratch with additional engine updates, while reducing the barrier of entry for the older content. The odd disparity between the engines and the updates made to them (why is the Calvary behavior fixes being done on the WH2 branch?) is splaying the team too much, and is just going to generate more resentment from the community going forward compared to just supporting and polishing one title.

This feels like the company realized they were going to be forced to slip dates on the content due to COVID, and instead of owning up to it decided that basically asset flipping and pasting major story cutscenes from the intended expansion was a good substitute.

In it's current state, it's possibly the worst expansion that has released for the game story wise, reaching below Shadowkeep and even Curse of Osiris levels. It's literally like there's a bunch of disparate major plot events tied together by a disposable MacGuffin which has you repeatedly asking questions about what it is, and just never resolving them.

Gameplay wise it's fine, pretty fun even with Strand, though you do get a sense when you don't have the Strand Enhanced buff provided by the storyline that the developers were very afraid of repeating Stasis's launch and toned it way too far back into too many ways.

I do think things could be done to fix these problems, but as it stands I cannot recommend getting the expansion right now.

Honestly still seems like a steal given the incredible amount of support the game has received over the years, if this keeps updates and fresh content coming I'm all for it.

Despite it's age Half-Life 2 still manages to stand the test of time. Of course the graphics may look dated, though if you look beyond this it is hard to not begin forgetting about the graphics and getting immersed in the fantastic world that Valve has created.

Early Access Review
Made jupiters radius that of the milky way, to my disappointment it turns into a black hole... I turn that back to the mass of Jupiter and I now have a black hole the size of a dime... There's now a Jupiter orbiting another Jupiter the size of a dime... 10/10 would make Jupiter orbit itself again?
