I wanted to write a big, long, extensive and precise review for this game to show how great and important it has been for me over the last 19 years. But I won't.

The game came out in 2001 and remains to this day one of the best written game you could experience. Don't be fooled by my play time on steam, my real play time of this game is calculated in hundreds of hours through CD version and mods (and god knows mods are good for this game).

The story is credible, immersive and fascinating. The level design is clever, full of details and allows you to replay the game over and over while still being able to discover new details, new dialogues and so on...

The gameplay could appear to be rusty and outdated but it would be too harsh to say that. This is no modern FPS and RPG, it takes a few hours to fully embrace the mechanics of the game and to be able to "enjoy" what the game has to offer. Plus the first mission is not the best. Deus Ex is like whisky... the first time you try it you hate it, but you have to force yourself into it because you know that with time you'll learn how to enjoy it the way it's meant to be enjoyed. It is complex, unforgiving at times, demanding but very rewarding.

Once you've fully dived into the game, you'll experience the power of a great atmosphere. The musics are great, the dialogues are clever and they will change according to how you play. The voicing acting can be great and sometimes terrible but it honestly doesn't ruin the experience, actually it can be pretty funny.

The game itself requires you to be thorough, there is no radar telling you exactly where the objective is. You'll have to read, listen, search for things in order to get to your objectives. And that is very rewarding. There are so many little details, your inquiries will lead you in different interesting situations all through the game.

The game is pretty long, some parts are a bit more interesting than others but overall the pace is good until the end.

Still, the game is old and modern setups can have issues running it smoothly. I recommend using a simple mod for a vanilla experience. Kentie's launcher. It will allow you to have the proper screen definition and brightness. Don't worry if you're not big into modding this one is a pretty easy one to install. Not much to do.

The game is cheap nowadays, what are you waiting for to experience one the best conspiracy theories the gaming industry has to offer ?

I don't usually review games but I'll make an exception for Ion Fury.
I've been following this project for quite a while now and I've been hyped ever since I've heard about it.
The wait was long but it was for the best. Little to say I was not disappointed with its release.
I finished the game in roughly 15 hours, exploring every secret I could find. The campaign is long, the levels are huge and quite varied. The game looks gorgeous and BUILD engine is used at its best.
If you're into secrets and great level design you won't be disappointed. Some of the secret areas are not only fun but they're also a pain in the ass to find from time to time, which represents a great challenge for fans of exploration such as me.

As an heir to DN3D, some sort, I can't help but compare Shelly to Duke as the protagonist. I have to say that if she might not top the charm Duke had in DN3D she's still a pretty cool hero to play with and her one liners are pretty cool and full of pop culture references.

The musics in the game fit the theme and the universe : some kind of cyberpunk techno-ish tracks. I personally am not a big fan of it so I won't be the best to judge. I would say the music are ok. Overall the sounds in the game are pretty good, the weapons, the sound of steps on metal, etc... Maybe more lines for the enemies could have been cool but that's not a big issue.

The gameplay itself felt really good, the weapons are fun to play with eventhough some of them could be balanced better ( I'm talking to you Loverboy !)

In the end Ion Fury was made to be the ultimate nostalgic experience of BUILD engine shooters and it is what it is meant to be to me. It was made by a team of passionate people who delivered what they promised.

The game comes with a level editor as well.
