The game requires a constant internet connection to the ubisoft servers. I start the game and it starts me in the tutorial, but in offline mode. Once you reach a certain point in the tutorial, you can't continue unless you're connected to ubi servers, even if you have full internet connection. Anytime I restart the game I receive error DE-014-01, which according to a support article on their website means the servers may be down for maintenance. But when checking the server status page, all servers are active, and when checking other forums, people are still actively playing.

Any questions about this error or being forced into offline mode are either left unanswered or recited the typical response for every game: verify your files, restart your router, port forwarding, reinstall the game.
