I quite liked it, especially the start where I was going through abandoned houses and gardens killing zombies and looting for gear, it was really fun and the scenery was perfect. The skyscraper was one of my favourite parts, I loved the floor with all the lights out and clickers, it was super atmospheric and the way that any wrong move or loud noise would mean a bunch of clickers would rush me got my heart racing. I'm usually not a fan of stealth sections In games but they did that one perfectly imo. They were unfortunately only able to recapture this feeling in me again only once the entire rest of the game in the basement of the school / university which was flooded with not only water, but also infected.

The second maybe two thirds / half of the game is where the issues arise, this may be a personal gripe but i feel like there was way too many encounters with humans compared to the infected later on, it took a lot away from the whole *Zombie* Apocalypse thing. Like, sure some every now and then would make sense and be fine, but it was just over and over again, it was so excessive how often I was taken away from infected just to kill a few people and the mood was ruined. I much preferred the infected sections and genuinely felt fear in some of them, but I was taken out of the immersion so much to fight some other angry humans who just so happen to also want to kill and/or rob me. This may be more of a personal opinion thing, but I buy a zombie game to see and kill zombies, not people every 30 minutes to an hour+. The trailers showed people yes, but it was made out to be a more infected focused game with people mixed in which is what I wanted and was expecting when I went into this, but I was given the opposite.

Overall, I'd give it a solid 6, maybe 6.5 out of 10. Online I've seen over and over again how good the games are, giving them so much praise and high scores on sites like Metacritic, even calling it one of the best story games ever, but it was far from it. It just felt too lacking in story and duration for me to be able to give it any higher of a score. I felt like the game was maybe only 75% of the way through when it ended and I had to actively not play it for a while in order to not blitz through it in 1 or 2 days and enjoy it properly. I took my time exploring as much as possible, trying to find every little thing, but the game still wasn't even 40 hours long. The “Part One” definitely needs to be emphasised as the game is far from complete story wise and way too short to charge a whopping £50 for it.

The game’s good, but it's definitely an overrated franchise. Just don't buy it for the full price or go into it expecting it to be mostly a zombie game as it's more of a people game with infected mixed in and you'll have a good time. I'll probably buy the second one eventually when it’s on sale but I'm not going in expecting the best game I've ever played.
