The game that you all thought was dead is now back from the dead!

This re-release of the game seems to have removed the copyrighted characters that were found in the last version though this version still has the Mario theme on the piano when placing objects in the "Edit" mode which I assume falls under fair use as it isn't a direct rip of the original sounds but an interpretation of them. There also might be some ripped sound files from Super Mario 64 just with a higher pitch when doing run jumping so this game might be taken down again for copyrighted content.

The game still has the same issues the last version had which I will list below:

-You cannot delete your world from the database once it is uploaded
-You cannot delete your comments once they have been posted
-You cannot delete your replays once they are posted nor can you delete others on your levels
-Some words are still in Chinese
-The game seems to get slightly blurry when making it fullscreen
-Several objects in the game are blurry, mainly the player and NPC's when scaled up
-There seems to be a little mouse input lag, the in-game cursor isn't as precise as it should feel
-The movement of the player character seems slippery and not as precise as you would expect

Suggestions to make the game better:

-Fix everything above
-Fix the horrible hitboxes for the enemy characters
-Continually add new blocks, enemies, and more
-The ability to create underwater levels to mix things up
-The chat blurb system from Mario Maker (Chat bubbles within the levels, including drawings)
-Work on your presentation (Create a Steam Store Page that's actually informative and interesting to read)
-Achievements
-Multiplayer functionality
-Modability

Overall this isn't a bad game but it has its flaws. I'm really hoping the developer behind this actually puts time into improving this game as time moves on, it would be extremely nice to get a decent Mario Maker-like game on the Steam store so part of me is hoping that this isn't a cash grab.

Edit: BoxMaker includes copyrighted sounds from Super Mario 64, the Long Jump from Super Mario 64 is present in BoxMaker but with the speed and pitch shifted up to mask it. The jump in BoxMaker can be accomplished by double tapping left or right and jumping three times in succession. I directly recorded the sound, converted to a .wav file, and altered it in Audacity to try and get it back to the way it originally sounds to make sure it was the actual ripped sound.

With a few minor fixes I got this game running perfectly within 5 minutes and was on my way to playing the great Singleplayer experience this game offers and the awesome Multiplayer though we only had about 6 people on the server.

The Multiplayer side of the game works just fine as of this review being posted in 2017 and the Singleplayer campaign was as fun as I remembered it! I'd highly recommend grabbing this game while you can as it has a high chance of being pulled due to the issues encountered when first trying to run the game.

Great game for a great price!

Still doesn't have "Manual Worms Placement" in Versus mode for my friends and I to set up custom scenarios in-game, this was an amazing feature in Worms 3D and it was absent in Worms 4 on the Xbox. Please Team17, please add Manual Placement back in for custom scenarios.

Short and simple, BM sucks ass for two reasons. The guard joke where you actually get attached to an NPC only for the developers to pull a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ joke and have him be killed in the stupidest way possible making the player lose immersion and stop caring for NPC's going forward (Alien Grunt spawning in killing him behind the door). Second, car interiors are rushed and lazy, for a game advertising as being a Half-Life Remake and charging you money you think they'd actually put work into the cars.

This is not a joke review, if you'd like to read my old in-depth review from 4 years ago feel free.

------------

Old Review:

As it currently stands I highly do not recommend this game with the current $20 price tag for numerous reasons which I will go into detail about below.

IN GENERAL:

The game has a multitude of flaws and problems that you notice right from the beginning when you first start playing it and it gets worse as the game goes on. There have been times where I've gotten so frustrated at the game that I've quit entirely and pushed it aside because of the flaws it brings to the table.

IN-DEPTH (May cover things not mentioned above):

Horrible HECU AI:
One of the biggest things you will notice is how stupid the soldier AI is yet they manage to shoot you with almost perfect accuracy from across the map with no recoil and even while out of view their magic bullets still seem to find there way into your body. Even with their Godlike accuracy they still manage to act like total idiots, I've had many times where they run into cover after I've started shooting and run back out standing in the exact spot they were when I shot them. All I have to do is keep my crosshair on that same spot and wait for them to run right back into it for an easy kill. Not only that but there are several times where they simply just stand in one place and do nothing, even when I approach them they still stand there in a dazed stupor not shooting or moving or anything until I kill them. Even when they run up to the player to shoot them there's times when they just stand there starring at the player waiting for them to be killed.

Damage Boost:
Another gigantic problem in this mod is the damage boost done by enemies, it seems like it takes only a few shots to reduce the player's full health and suit charge to zero in seconds, same with the Agrunt's Hivehand projectiles.

Animations:
For the most part the animations in this game are bad, from the metropolice run animations for Barney to the goofy stumbling animations of the zombies, even the HECU are simply combine soldiers with different skins and sounds. Because BM is using stock HL2 animations you can see how they don't fit well with the new NPC's such as the scientists with their weird finger animations or Barney who likes to have his arms go through his chest when he has the pistol in his hand.

Bugs:
This game has plenty of bugs from bad collisions on props, constant game crashes, buggy AI, and unfair player deaths that shouldn't have happened in the first place. The workshop, not to mention, is a horribly implemented mess. Not only is the workshop system in-game a poorly designed tacked on mess but it serves no functionality other then to tell players what they are subscribed to. You can't turn things on or off, you can't unsub from the menu, and to make things worse the devs broke most workshop support and haven't fixed it yet and because we can't disable workshop items in-game we have to unsub and completely re-install BM to play it without more crashes and errors.

Textures/Models:
You'd think that an HD remake of Half-Life 1 would be just that, an HD remake but over the course of the game you start to see how bad the textures are. There are places where the textures are so bad and blurry that the original Gldsrc engine would do a better job rendering the textures than the BM team did on the new engine. The various car models in the maps are under-detailed on the inside looking like something out of an N64 game and the textures for the damaged Truck and APC are so low res that it looks like they took them straight from a SNES console. These are just a couple examples but if you take the time to look you will start to see how bad things look. Not only that but the BM team is still using stock HL2 and L4D assets without even giving them an upgrade so you see extremely low res HL2 props next to HD BM props, it doesn't look nice. Even some of the NPC's are still from the stock HL2 such as the Barnacle and Headcrab, they didn't even try to make them look faithful to Half-Life 1.

Overall Black Mesa is nowhere close to justifying their $20 price tag, I get it's an early access title but asking for $20 when the game has all these issues is greedy and unnecessary. I highly suggest you get this game when it goes on sale for 75% off or you get it dirt cheap from a third-party website but I caution you not to buy it for full price. Don't buy this until they put more effort into it, as it stands it's a nice $20 pack of maps but it is NOT a complete Half-Life remake. If you want to play BM play the mod, you aren't missing anything and at least some of these problems can be justified.

If you would like to see examples from some of the things I've mentioned check my BM screenshots on my profile, I point out a lot of bugs and problems there.

Another trashy Call of Duty game with the same assets, animations, sounds, enemies, and lackluster gameplay. In all honesty I bought this only for Survival which is how they hook people like me however even that is extremely cheap and unfair. Overall don't buy this trash unless you have a friend to play with or you get it dirt cheap on sites like "Gee Two Ay dot Com" because Activision is Activision this game will never go on sale for a good price.

Edit: Appearently having "G, 2, and A together is censored by steam, good job guys, way to promote censorship where it isn't even needed.

Remember Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory? I do and I'm still playing it. If you're a long time fan of Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory like I am you will enjoy this game. If you're not, you'll still enjoy this game. This latest project from Splash Damage takes everything good about Wolfenstein (Which is everything) and puts it into a modern multiplayer shooter.

Hitmarker dings? it has it!
Tank-like vehicles you can mount and spray lead? It has it!
Dynamite Objectives? It has it!
"I need a medic!" It has it!

Truly a fantastic game which is free to play with buyable items in-game which I look past because ultimitely you can play and enjoy the game without it. Seriously, get this game!

Another garbage re-release of every game before it. Don't be fooled by the "Very Positive" rating, the game is garbage and a cash grab like every other Call of Duty game after World at War. Uses most of the same content including animations/textures/and anything else from WaW and COD4 and gives it a nice little "Reskin" calling it a brand new game. The singleplayer campaign is full of bugs and exploits with the same allies who can never be killed and are terrible at covering your back and the same run, cover, and shoot method from all of the previous games. They've even reused assets from older games including Return to Castle Wolfentein. I've long since lost faith in Activision and the only reason I have this game in my library is due to a friend who decided to be nice on Christmas. Ironically now I'm wanting to get the DLC's because they include the Zombies campaign which is the only reason I'd ever buy a Call of Duty Game but the Dev's know this and this is how they sell so many DLC's. Screw Activision for making another reskin of the same Call of Duty games Don't buy this game unless it's on sale for more then 50% but it won't be so I'd grab it on GeeTwoAy.com when it goes down in price. (G and 2 and A)
