Way better than any of the Dark Souls games by a country mile.

Become based and Dark Souls 2 pilled.

Hallucinate at 5am to a beat that makes you feel like you slammed your face into a mountain of cocaine, and then go murder the russian mafia.

You will remember it fondly, but also much like how you remember being deathly ill at 7 years old.

Incredible grindfest with cool quests, addictive combat, and many interesting modes for you to check out.

Unfortunately this game has been in beta (literally lol) for 10 years and they seemingly have no idea what to do. They keep adding new modes unrelated to any other content, not finishing them, and then they never return to it, moving on to the next new mode. And then every 2-3 years they add a story-related quest that's a few hours long, before then going back to "game jamming" out a bunch of new modes until the next drip feed of story content.

It feels like the game has no direction and isn't being reigned in at all.
They just keep adding new stuff they think is cool, but it's kind of becoming a huge overwhelming mess to try and play as a new player, and if you're a player who comes back every now and then, it's even more of a mess.

BUT if you can turn your brain off to the idea that nothing makes sense, and you're willing to google stuff you don't understand, and search up how the 1000's of different reward and crafting mechanics work, then you'll find a really snappy feeling power fantasy shooter that honestly feels better than Destiny in many regards. I think it's worth a shot at least-- it's free after all!

Speaking of, you can earn pretty much anything in this game. It's one of those where the only real cost if you don't want to use real money, is your time. You can grind pretty much any Warframe or weapon in the game, and you can even get the premium currency "platinum" without spending money if you're will to grind for parts and sell them to other players. However, if you really like the game and play if for hundreds of hours, it's not the worst idea in the world to wait for a %75 off discount coupon login reward for platinum and get a ton of it for really cheap.

Anyway, try the game.

Feeling slightly embarrassed by a review I wrote when I was like 16, I figured I would update this as my feelings have not reflected anything written in the old review since probably a year after I wrote it.
Except for the fact that I think Underhell is a good mod :)

That aside, this game is edgy and downright goofy at times, but it's incredibly well done.
The atmosphere is wonderful, the gameplay is fun, and the graphics are a marvel considering it's on the GoldSrc engine (Half-Life 1). It feels as close to a first person Silent Hill 2 that you could probably get.

I'm not going to go too deep into it, as what I have to say will probably mirror pretty much any other positive review, but I did just want to take a moment and update an old and cringy review.

If you want a laugh though, keep reading. You can tell it was written by a kid.

Old "Negative" Review (2014):

Pretty creepy game with a great story.
But very poor execution.
The lack of support from the company that made it is a show of this.

I'll start off with the fact Multiplayer has been broken for months.
With multiple outcries of the community, the game developers wont take it to themselves to actually figure out what is wrong and fix it, instead they told people to figure it out for them or just stick to stuff like Hamachi. While Hamachi works, not everyone has a bunch of friends lining up to play Co-op or survival. So Pub gaming is out of the question.

Next is the constant crashing on multiple OS systems and again, Psyskallar aren't trying to figure out why, as they don't care. People think "Oh they are just working on a brand new game".
No.
If this was the case they would of told us that, not hold a present in front of a little kid, promise them they will get it if they are good boys or girls, and then just yank it away.

My complete hatred towards Psyskallar itself is pretty much the only thing keeping me from finishing the game. The lead developer Andreas is jsut a complete and utter douchebag. If you have a complaint, he tells you to ♥♥♥♥ off. He even rants about other horror games for not being as "good" as his. And this game isn't even that good. He is self-centered and thought that his game would reign supreme for years.
It didn't even last 2 months past the official release.
And yet all he does for the game is update it with more Custom Campaigns.
Ones we can just go download ourselves if we want.

Now to some more..... positive things.
The horror of the game is both psychological and plain disturbing.
With Jumpscares, little things watching you from the corner of your eye that you cant quite catch, and things that make you question what happenedm I would say the horror was pulled off decently.
Was it the best horror ever?
No.
Underhell and Nightmare House 2 win that award.

The Gunplay was decent.
Wasn't great.
Guns feel nice and weighty when you shoot although some of them have a bit too much recoil.

The constant need of deciding what gun you would need and decide would have more abundant ammo adds to the survival factor, but it's still annoying.

The ability to duel wield, while unrealistic, is a nice addition for a little extra fire-power.
Again, recoil killed it for me.

The need for a light source is a very nice addition.
Especially when you have to rely on only using one handed weapons to use said flashlight.

The story itself is enough to make people like me want to play it, as it's a very intriguing tale of mind ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Plus with the ability to unlock items for each difficulty that you can use for the next new game is really good for replay value.

All in all, it's a decent game, but only decent.
I give it a 6/10.

And no, "it's free" is no excuse.
This used to be a mod.
Mod's don't get excuses.

Terrible game.

The tutorial was so boring that I didn't even bother finishing it.
Though, I wasn't too excited at what await me after the tutorial either, as i've heard this is one of the most unforgiving and anti-noob communities out there.

I don't understand how that yields people 1000s of hours.

Edit: This is an old review, I was like, what, 16 when I wrote this?
Damn.

ANYWAY, the game now works these days and it's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ blast, check it out.

Old review below for fun:

One of the first Source mods i've ever played.
I remember it back in 2008 and it was one of the best things in my childhood PC gaming.
I would still love it, if it would work anymore that is.

The developers stopped fixing it for another project called 'Contagion' that really didn't look that good.
More like a clone of the game.

Really fun, fast paced, and competitive shooter with a hardcore community.
I preferr CSS, but this is a close second.
