It pains me to give it a 'not recommended' but I'm just too disappointed right now.

I backed the Kickstarter 5 years ago as I've loved every other Cyan game. Especially since it was boasted to be "VR first" and I own a Valve Index. Now, 5 years later, I have no idea what must have happened at Cyan because this game is, amongst other VR titles, very very basic. Lots of other VR games let you pickup stuff, peak in corners and such to add to the immersion. In Firmament you can't pickup anything, not touch anything, nothing. You have a device which let you control obvious 'controls' making it almost a point and click experience. So zero points on interactivity. Climbing ladders is horrible and I even got stuck at some points while the design clearly showed I should be able to descend.

The game design itself is very nice and well thought through, has to be said. The rendering however.... The lightmapping is very bland and badly done. When setting the graphics to high or epic the game glitches all over. Shadowmaps for instance flicker in and out of existence and glitches are different for each eye so very annoying.

So if you like 8 hours of puzzling, do play it because the puzzles are ok but don't go for the VR because it's not a VR game, certainly not VR-first.

I'm mostly sad that in 5 years they clearly did not check out any other VR games because a lot of mechanics like climbing stairs and picking up objects had been ironed out by other game studio's years ago.

I stopped playing it in VR altogether

[ADDED LATER]

Forgot to mention some annoyances:
- when I start the game in headset (Valve Index) I have to ALWAYS manually set audio output to the headset
- space walk level is severely bugged. Doors that should be open were closed and vice versa
- Menu in VR is unusable. Z-order of the rendering is wrong so you can't see where you point
- the menu point-beam even flickered out of existence when trying to click some options

Looks awesome, but it's really no much more than that. 1.5 hrs of gameplay with the difficulty that a 5 yo could do. I was expecting / hoping something like Monument Valley but it's more like "place coloured block to the one place it fits". Some levels are not even puzzles but "place block".
looks awesome. that's about it.

Early Access Review
damn what a bad program. I wouldn't even dare give this to QA, let alone submit to the store.
Broken in EVERY way possible, kudos for that.

Awesome game but since the last update it crashes every half hour or so. If they update and fix the issue, absolutely go buy it, it's beautifull. Right now, no.

It's 100% soothing my OCD. It's like the the pre-school version of factorio (let's be honest) but I mean that in a good way because factorio looks way too daunting for me.

This is obviously a passion project for the makers. The story is nice, the voice acting and the music are excellent. Reminiscent of the "Stanley Parable" and even more like "The Beginners guide". Those games, however, had a quirk. Something fun that would make it playable. This story isn't a game. It's an audiobook that let's you walk around. Walk around clicking all the highlighted items and solve a very simple slide puzzle to advance to the next room. There's a journal in which you can read the story behind each item you click but there's no penalty or reward if you do or don't.
Coming from Cyan, I was a bit disappointed. Played through it in 2 hours.
If you're axpecting a puzzle game, don't buy it. If you like listening to a story while you click things, do.

Just awesome! I've been a TR fan forever but this time they realy upped the visuals another level and balanced the gameplay more towards exploration and puzzels than combat.
