Look, all I'm gonna say is that if you have even a passing interest in shmups, buy this. It's absolutely amazing, and has plenty of game modes for pretty much anyone, from beginners, to experts, to those who want a quick game.

This game is truly (almost) perfect. If you do not get this amazing generation of super-fast RPG madness, you are stupid. Yes, I know. That's insulting, but it's also the truth.

Okay, so this, along with the rest of the Tale of ALLTYNEX trilogy, is widely regarded in shmup circles as one of the best doujin (Japanese indie) shmups ever, and it really is very good. The gameplay revolves around your ability to produce a reflective shield, similar to Giga Wing. If you kill an enemy with a reflected bullet, you get a score multiplier for a little while. If you continue killing enemies with reflected bullets while the multiplier is still active, it goes even higher, to a maximum of x64. You can't just keep the shield on all the time, though, as you have a limited amount of energy for it, which recharges while you aren't using it, and does so more quickly if you aren't shooting. Speaking of shooting, your firepower is tied directly to how much shield energy you have left. As an aside, you don't get a traditional lives system in this game. Instead, you have a health gauge which is fully repaired at certain points. Whether or not you will prefer this to a traditional lives system is subjective.

As for the presentation, the music, graphics, and story are top-notch. I have nothing more to add there. My only real complaint here is that this version of RefleX doesn't have the Steam overlay (even though ALLTYNEX Second and Kamui will), so you'll need something like Puush if, say, you want to take a screenshot of your personal best score. There are also no online leaderboards (also something the other two games in the trilogy will have). Overall, though, if you haven't bought this yet, go ahead and do so. It's awesome.

If you're wondering whether or not to buy this, the answer is "yes, buy it as soon as possible"!

Let's see, three modes, two difficulty levels, and seven stages. Also, it's incredibly fast-paced. Buy it this instant.

This game is simply incredible. To not have any version of Half Minute Hero means either not having any of the systems it's available on, or being completely foolish. One of the two. Okay, so there's also simply having never heard of it, but still...

Not just one of the best shmups on Steam (though there aren't that many on the service), but one of the best in existence.

So, this game is awesome. It's notable for having been one of the few Japanese indie games on Steam back in the olden days of the service (2010 counts as "The olden days", right?). You've probably heard about it, and it's really good.
