the portal gimmick is cooler than you think. and if you think the halo aspect isn't already cool this might not be for you.

i've had this on GOG for a while and keep getting distracted whenever i try to really dive deep into it, so when it was on sale with all DLC for 15$ i jumped at the chance to reignite the adventure. the game really is 2 parts Divinity Original Sin, 1 part Sid Meiers Pirates, and the best parts at that. honestly, i rate it above DOS2 in terms of fun, if not detail oriented, gameplay, and it will be my favorite isorpg until Baldur's Gate 3 comes out fully.

I held off from playing this for a long time. The indie-survival genre just makes me wary, especially being single player only. but i heard from a youtuber i respect that it was good so i finally tried it.
holy crap.
The fact this game is solo only makes it SO much better. it is so fun finding new dangers and figuring out how to circumvent them while floating around a pretty unique setting with gorgeous effects and water. of course, i'm a sucker for water graphics/physics so that helps. but yes i would look more into it but this game should be on your radar if you like open world survival games.

Its like cod, except has more free movement and mecha fights, if you want.

Im currently waiting on a friend to buy it before diving in again, but i played much more on ps4 and if u liked nioh 1 or like souls-likes, this is your game. The addition of a diablo-like loot system just fits so well and adds some nice depth and progression.

So I had played the demo with all 4 classes doing every activity, and have now played a few hours into the full game, and even now i can say that this game is special. it will certainly not be for everyone, even among looter-shooter fans, as it makes some pretty hard decisions in game design that not everyone will like, such as old-school linear level design ala Gears of War or most of Mass Effect with some lore and treasure chest goodies sprinkled in to make you look around a little, and a sorta gruff, almost airy? top-level kind of story telling that old shooters usually had (if you know what i mean). But outside those are some very neat choices like guns and armor with actually important mods and stats that you are almost always genuinely happy to see and more often than not think "wow, thats actually pretty cool". Between the equipment mods, classes and class tree, the abilities, and the types of guns you use, there is alot more customization than is normally seen in these types of games. The devs have been pretty clear since before launch on what the gameplay would be like and what the end-game grind would look like, and honestly it gives me sorta monster hunter vibes (story is Low Rank, expeditions are High Rank) but that might just be Rise on the brain. The combat is fun, full of gore and explosions that will make every battle a spectacle, with elite enemies to keep you on your toes with powers of their own. There's crafting, including a "mod library" thing where you unlock mods to craft into your gear by dismantling gear you own with that mod, which then adds a whole "gotta catch em all" element to mods. all in all, lots to do, cool fights to have, with certainly 60 hours of gameplay at least between the story, end-grind, and multiplayer aspects.

Anyway, if you liked Destiny or The Division and what i've said didnt scare you off, you will probably like this game. If you liked older shooters like Mass Effect or Gears of War, you will probably like this game (though don't expect mass effect's story).
I'm putting my review up early because I'm seeing way too many bad reviews here because of the launch day server debacle which, while not great, is unfortunately pretty common and is already being patched vigorously as we speak. I myself tried to play solo on launch day and was crashed within 5 minutes, but already today i played for all my 3 hours of playtime without any sort of complications.
