I have played a fair few RPGs, mostly modern, some older, but this one more than other has made me care about the choices. The character creation includes a section known as 'conquest' where you are allowed to choose your hand in the conquest of the Tiers (where the game takes place) and the decisions matter, even the smallest ones get at least a line of dialogue acknowledging them. Combat is about what you'd expect, nothing too revolutionary and nothing terrible.

Has a lot of bugs sure, but never have I been able to properly exterminate a race of genocidal Geckos as a race of equally genocidal Starfish by means of biological warfare and violate numerous of the laws in the Geneva convention. 8/10 addicting and fun

From the point of view of a whole new game it is worth the price tag. It has outstanding bosses, good mechanics, good progression, and is good in practically every way. But this isn't the original Dark Souls game. If you don't own the original and are looking to get into Dark Souls with this game, go for it. However this game is almost the original version of Dark Souls except it's a better PC port, runs more smoothly all around, and with some updated graphics. In terms of a remaster, it isn't good. This is one of the games where a middle road recommendation would be very helpful and more accurate.

After playing the game for a little I think I'm ready for a review. The amount of customization in this game is high both aesthetically and in terms of combat. This means that any two characters are very likely different even among the same class. The combat is varied from the early game where taking advantage of the terrain is important, to the late game where arena construction and dodging becomes more important.

For new players the progression isn't exactly obvious, but that's why the guide exists. However even with the guide knowing what constitutes a house, how to remove background, and everything involving wires can be difficult to figure out for new players. Some parts of the game are almost comically easy while others can be incredibly hard.

The grind to get drops can be absurd for certain items due to low drop rates on rare enemies, but for the most part if you want the usual stuff that isn't off to the side it probably won't take more than 10 minutes even without a farm.

Overall the game is very good and a steal at a price of $10. There's a good reason why (at the time of the review) it has a 97% positive review score here.
