Unlike many other reviews, I've only discovered the game very recently.

The best way I can describe it is "Albion Online without Ganking".

To some people, that sounds boring. And to others, that sounds exciting. If you're in the latter camp, this game's for you.

The best cosmic / eldritch horror game I've ever played, hands down.

I read the reviews as mixed for this one and I genuinely don't understand how this one received so much hate.

My crew all agree the characters were fantastic (Even though it's quite hard to follow up with Jason and Salim). The scares were good, the decisions were difficult. Character deaths were difficult choices and not 'random'. The puzzles were light but not that bad at all - considering Resident Evil has tons of puzzles and is constantly replayed and praised, I'm unsure of the problem here either.

Excited to do a curator's cut for this one.

Needs a lot more work to hold attention compared to other games honestly. Demands too much focus to be a background casual game, but isn't fun enough to deserve main monitor either.

For people who adore the Zero Escape / Nonary Game series, AI: Somnium Files, Pheonix Wright, and Danganronpa series and looking for something like them this is NOT for you.

The world is interesting and the characters are OK, but I felt no attachment to either. The world is littered with collectibles which are supposed to serve as tidbits of interesting lore but instead just waste your time.

The game is littered with animations all of which serve little purpose but to waste your time. Every single collectible you pick up - including the game's generic currency - displays a full-screen flash-card + audio queue that needs to be manually closed out of. Every single time you 'fast' travel, you have to go to a telephone, wait for a loading screen to get into the vehicle, THEN choose a location to teleport to.

Finally the 'detective' piece - what I believed should be the most important part of the game is simply a collectathon as well with the most anticlimactic payoff I've seen. Throughout the game you literally go into your menu and go through a checklist of items to figure out until the list is no longer there, running back and forth and back and forth and back and forth between the suspects as you go. As you collect the evidence you piece together a 'truth'.

The trial, which after ~7 hours of running around in circles for clues consists of no cross-examination, accusation, back and forth. No catching people in a lie, contradiction, or detective work needed. Just another checklist with a bunch of dialogue.

Now I'm not saying every game needs to be Danganronpa, but I mean there is no payoff at all. I was holding out and genuinely excited for the trial, and it was entirely flaccid. Endings are critical for me in games and this one left a bad taste in my mouth. It's open ended, which is fine, and you design your own truth - but there's only 1-2 real answers, and the game basically tells you who to choose as well.

The immortal demi-gods of the world practically roll over once you provide your checklist that you ran around collecting. The entire end felt lackluster, unimpactful, tacky and most of all unsatisfying - and in my opinion is the most important part of these types of games.

Let's see...

The environment art and artstyle of the characters is alright. It establishes a decent world but then tears it away with crass dialog trying too hard to be 'edgy'.

Gameplay is monotonous without even sound effects and poor animations, the game itself appears to be pretty buggy.

The controller support didn't work at all and I ended up clicking giant xbox buttons.

Not a bad first-try at a game, but not worth $25 USD or your regional equivalent.

Fantastic game. I've always been in the MMO scene dating back (I understand not as old as some people's first experiences) but the original runescape 2. It's genuinely a lot of fun, the community in the game is fantastic and it all feels like just one big guild. I've made some friends in the game already and you'll see familiar faces all the time, opposed to the single-player feeling a lot of modern / treadmill MMOs today provide.

There's no instant group button, so you're left to making groups the old fashioned way.

The skills and progression I'm bias towards because I'm an absolute sucker for skill systems where you build up your character's skills by using them.

The skills are creative, enjoyable and sometimes quite funny. They range from 'Archery' and 'Sword' to 'Dying' and 'Alcohol Tolerance'.

Monetisation of the game is B2P with NO In-game purchases and NO Subscription

Combat is classic ability / global cooldown based but with a couple of unique twists:
- The 'rage' system - monsters generate rage as they attack and take damage, unleashing strong attacks if the bar fills up. Rage can (and should!) be managed by abilities, you can even have builds based around managing it.
- Armour is a flat amount like HP. Higher amounts of armour decrease damage done to your HP, but it also wears down through battle and select skills.

Honestly, if you:
- Love WURM Online
- Enjoyed old school runescape
- Or are just looking for a new MMO after being burnt out on all of the latest ones

I'd pick this one up. It's been great for me and my little group of friends.

Do NOT fall for the obviously stolen PUBG Logo or the high reviews.

I don't understand how this game got so popular by the alpha testers. This game is in an absolute abysmal state. The gunplay feels more static than anything I've ever played. The gunshot sounds and impacts are pathetic. The suppressed CX8 sounds like it was from ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ 007 Goldeneye.

It's impossible to tell how far away someone is and sometimes when you're getting shot you don't actually know it. It is barely possible to know where you're being shot from, and I've even been hit without seeing blood splatter or feeling any impact at all that a simple screen shake or shock could resolve.

I've seen Source engine sparks fly out of a guy when shooting him. I get MASSIVE frame drops - dips under 30, noticeable by viewers and I have a 1080 TI with an i7 at 4.2 GHz. The game is a barely working tech demo, and nowhere near an early access state. Every core mechanic is there but at a basically childish level. Did you know you could break glass in nintendo 64 games? And this is the era of virtual reality. Very disappointed in the people who constantly praised the game. I've applied for my refund and will stick with match based shooters with solid gun mechanics.

Hopefully all of these problems get sorted but I truly don't think these will be resolved.

Update:

The developers are requesting people to positively rate the game. I have played a lot of Early Access games in the past and you can easily tell when a game will see it through or be awful forever. This is definitely the latter.

The discord community is an echo chamber and any criticisms are not heard, or responded with 'It's in Early Access!'
