This game is probably the game that will teach you think about the box more than any other game I've played.
Not inside.
Not outside.
But the box itself.
That perspective alone is worth the asking price.

This game is a top tier game. It has many things going for it but a few potential downs that may make it not as appealing to everyone.
First, it's what I would call a "high sci-fi" game. That is to say, it's science fiction in a traditional way. This is not a bad thing for me, but some not everyone is going to love this because of the setting. To that I say, why are you looking at a review for a space fighter sim?
Second, Everspace 2's gameplay loop is pretty repetitive. If you enjoy it, this is a very good thing. I also think it's good for you since you'll get a feel for whether or not you'll like the game in less than an hour tops.
But as you might expect, none of that matters to me. This is probably my favorite space game I've played since Escape Velocity. The controls? Excellent feeling, easily accessable, and intuatitive, The gameplay is also as hard as you want it to be. Hard is actually quite challenging which is what I like. The difficulty curve isn't perfect at times, but most of the time it comes down to getting a better piece of gear at the right time to get you back on track. The story isn't something I've finished yet, but I'm liking it so far.
The best way I can compliment the game is that it feels like quake or apex but with single player space fighting, it just feels right to play. Simple to pickup, hard to master. That combination is rare, this game has it. At least, if you want it to be hard.

An open-source, spiritual successor to Escape Velocity? I was already in. I'm still in, even if I don't know where to begin exploring.

For those of you who don't know, the premise of this game is you're a dreamer that wants to become rich and famous or whatever being a space pilot. Where you go from there? Entirely up to you. There are campaign threads scattered about but you have to find them first.

Given that it's free to play and still getting new content almost 2 years later, I'm definitely giving it my recommendation. You have to try it at least once. Trust me, my hours above is "trying" it once (ish, I'm still not done)
