One of my all-time favorite games. It's hard to describe exactly what M&B is to someone that hasn't played the game before as it's pretty damn unique. Basically it's an open-world sandbox RPG with basebuilding and strategy elements - closest example to it I can think of is Total War with more RPG elements.

In my opinion the best part of the game is the lively mod scene. The game has been out for nearly a decade now and still new mods are being produced. While there's plenty of minor quality of life mods, there's a ton of total conversion mods that change the entire game. Some of these keep the game in a relatively similar setting with new maps/quests/factions (like Diplomacy or Prophesy of Pendor) while others change everything about the game, putting it in a completely different setting with fantasy/scifi creatures (The Last Days of the Third Age, Star Wars Conquest). The game has a ton of replayability to start with, and these mods keep it fresh no matter how often you want to start it up again.

So I've put nearly 700 hours in this game and still haven't got around to buying the DLC. The game is a nice change of pace from Civ 5, with new mechanics that make it far more than a graphical update to the game. I don't know if I'd say it's a better game, but it's different and that's more of what I was looking for. The game is also far more polished than Civ 5, I've had relatively few issues with weird AI or bugs. The multiplayer is still a bit janky, but far better than Civ 5's. There's a lot more viable options for victory as well as paths to it, increasing replayability when compared to earlier games in the franchise. Overall it's a fantastic game and one I expect to put a lot more time into.

This DLC really improves the base game. I got bored of the base game about 20 hours in but since I tried out the DLC I've played over 100 more hours. The DLC adds a lot of complexity to pretty much all elements of the base game. Base-building is a lot more in depth, you have way more types of soldiers you can get, and there are many more options for how you can structure your party.

If you found the base game fun but repetitive, I'd highly recommend trying out this DLC.

Good time-waster. Simple yet challenging gameplay and the game runs flawlessly.

The game is really pretty and a fun concept. However, playing hunters really isn't fun unless you're playing with a four-stack. You can unlock all 15 of the hunters/monsters fairly quickly, and once you do the progression effectively stops minus some generic damage/cooldown upgrades. The game is buggy, I regularly encounter games where the monster gets stuck in the terrain somehow. A week in it's already difficult to find matchmaking games. The last time I tried playing with a three I went two rounds with an AI monster and trapper, eventually giving up because the AI trapper refused to use their dome and we were unable to catch the monster. Then you're stuck with boring games where you don't find the monster until they hit level three and you can't fight him anymore, or the ones where you immediately trap and kill him. The game is fun for a while if you have enough people to play with, but I definitely wouldn't recommend at the $60 price tag. Wait till it drops till ten then buy it with a bunch of friends, hopefully a sale will also get some people back in matchmaking.
