Okay memes and stuff aside, I'm still just fascinated that a game from 2014 has real-time, procedurally generated enemy and prop destruction, it doesn't demolish your frame rate, and NO OTHER GAME has done this.

Other games would have my PC set alight from trying to render a dozen blades of grass.
Meanwhile, I can do the equivalent of put a man through a paper shredder in 1080p 60fps glory without even a hint of delay or any dropped frames.
Must be those pain inhibitors Raiden mentioned.

This game build different.
Like Raiden.

I sure am glad NASA never hired me or Apollo 11 would've been one hell of an expensive fireworks show.

You play shirtless Vittorio because you're thirsty.

I play shirtless Vittorio because he's a glowstick.

We are not the same.

It's kinda like hide and seek.
Except the seeker has a knife and malicious intent.

When I was but a wee lad, I had not a care in the world.
My biggest concerns were doing my homework, eating my vegetables, and building up the courage to fight Elvarg and earn my Rune Platebody privileges.

Life was good.

A lot has changed since then.
I've gotten a job.
I've finished university.
I've moved house.

But every so often, I like to go back.
Back to the time I learned how to bake a cake by burning thousands of crayfish on a stove.
Back to the time I deforested the region around the Cooking Guild to buy an Adamant Berzerker Shield 0 on the Grand Exchange.
Back to the time I would take potshots at the skeletons near the wilderness' edge; too terrified to ever set foot on their side of the wall.

Back to the time when life was a bit simpler.

TL:DR; A fun game from a local dev team that is totally worth your time.

Depth is an asymmetrical 4 vs 2 game pitting divers against sharks in a unique fps experience.
Right out the gate, the game doesn't faff around with fancy cinematics or cutscenes; this feels like an older-school experience that's all about the gameplay iteself, which I can respect. You have a menu, some tutorial/help pages, some pages for skins, and a giant play button to get yourself going.

The gameplay itself is swift and exciting; Divers are looking for sunken treasure, and the sharks are looking to stop them.
Fights don't usually last longer than a few seconds, and the two sides are balanced well; sharks have a higher emphasis on planning and hit-and-run tactics, while divers rely more on reaction speed and vigilance.

Movement is nice and fluid (pun intended) with the underwater setting allowing for vertical movement, making for a more unique gameplay experience than a traditional shooter. Despite being underwater, guns are still impactful, and the sharks' thrashing mechanic, while a little clunky, feels absolutely savage and really satisfying.

While the game has a slew of monetisation methods, none are intrusive or mandatory:
  • DLCs are purely cosmetic
  • Lootboxes are free to open, and are only earned by playing the game
  • The Battle Pass can easily be completed for free; paid benefits are either for convenience (XP boost), or can be purchased afterwards (Battle Pass skins can be sold on the community market)

The only real negative is that the game has a fairly small playerbase, but even then queue times are comically short; usually less than 30 seconds.

All in all, I would highly recommend picking up Depth.
It's on sale fairly frequently, but is still normally cheaper than most games, and still totally worth the $24 price tag.

I'd rather sacrifice my firstborn child than fight another buffed Marauder.
