I've gotta say a few things about this game because I think it stands out in a few ways. I'll summarize some important elements of this game which one should consider before purchasing, saving my opinion for the end.

Verdun is different from many shooters, the engine is quite a bit different. Movement, generally, is clunky and hard to get used to, though rewarding once mastered. Typically rifle bullets kill in one hit, with pistols, MG's, and others taking two. This makes the learning curve somewhat challenging given that many experienced players can better move, duck, doge, and out-play you initially.

This game is infantry focused: Vehicles appear only as static map objects for cover, planes interact only through commands issued by a skirmisher squad leader. Players interact in squads. A number of bonuses is awarded to players for playing their role, such as increased stamina within the NCO (Squad Leader's) aura. Learning and playing to these strengths can be a challenge at first, or may appear not to cause a significant change, however I assure you that there every "top squad of match" will have a squad with players playing around NCO aura and the NCO's command orders, especially those that take advantage of bonuses.

I can say pretty assuredly that this is the most historically accurate WW1 shooter on the market, though I can't say it's "realistic". What really got my goat about Battlefield 1 was the ridiculous open battlefields, proliferation of automatic weapons, and a lack of emphasis on team play, all elements that, arguably, do not represent a more accurate portrayal of WW1. Verdun's loadouts are determined by which particular role in which particular squad you play. Approximately 3/4's of all of the roles will utilize a bolt-action rifle. Notable exceptions include MG's, a flamethrower (German Pioniere Squad), an Mp 18 (German Stoßtruppen Squad), a trench shotgun (American Marines), and pistols. This are all limited typically to one role in one specific squad. What's pretty amazing is the variety among rifles. Every rifle has a different sight, chamber speed, damage,(only really useful for long range shots which don't encompass the majority of gameplay) clip size, reload speed and method, and sound.

Lastly servers are capped at 64 players, though our community is unfortunately small. To compensate bots have been added to ensure there is always (or close to) 64 soldiers running around. This makes learning somewhat easier and more rewarding since finding kills in your first game shouldn't be too tough.

If these are elements you enjoy or would like to try out I strongly encourage you to do so. If said elements distract from the gameplay, or you're just more used to other shooters out there, then I say tread with caution: You may seriously find issue particularly with movement. If you do decide to get this game say hi to me in the NA servers, I'm glad to teach anyone who wants to learn more about how to start and play :)

Cheers, all.

I've spent so much time in this stupid game...

It's basic, not wholly thought out, old...
But I absolutely love it.

My poor potato PC only gets about 20 frames but that rarely stops me from enjoying this. This is due almost entirely to the wonderful and amazing modding community for this game. Anything basic, not well thought out, or outdated about this game is completely remedied with most any mod.

I love this game, I hope you do too :)
