You can watch videos of this online over and over again, but nothing will compare to the bewilderment and awe I experienced when I strapped on the headset. My jaw was on the floor the whole time. My grandmother loves the ocean, I had her try this and she was in tears. The price is high for three short experiences but it is totally worth it, especially if you love the share this with your friends and family. The abyss part, my mind was blown. If you're on the fence, just get it, you won't be disappointed.

Despite the mostly negative reviews I decided to just buy the game and be the judge myself... oh how I wish I had just listened to the reviews. Let me also start off by saying that I did not complete the game. This is the first time I'm writing a review for a game in which I have not completed, and I've played some trash horror games, which in it's own words says a lot.

The game started off decent enough, but slowly started falling apart before my eyes.

Pros:
+Spooky atmosphere.
+Solid graphics (unreal 4 engine).
+Great second level.

Cons:
-Scares quickly become cheap and unoriginal, eventually losing their charm.
-Sound fx is way out of place and needs major adjusting.
-(weird complaint) The door animation takes way too long and is far too annoying, it does not take a human-being this long to open a door or to see if it's locked.
-Main lobby in the game has a phone that's constantly ringing, destroying the atmosphere it's in.
-Insane visual bugs! Especially level 4 (which is where I stopped) is so LOADED with visual bugs that I could not believe this game was allowed to get published in it's current state.

Once I got to level 4 I found the game unplayable, not only because of the visual bugs, but that I kept dying with no sense of direction on where I needed to go. You're basically in a swamp with grass grown past your head and you need to make it through. The problem is you can't see where to go and on top of that a dead girl is chasing you and she's hella fast, like she runs at 99% your speed, and she doesn't stop chasing you so if you slow down or stop for just a moment you have to start all over again.. and she's not scary.

This game is not complete AT ALL, it shouldn't be allowed on here, please do what I refused to do, take heed on the negative reviews. If you want a great indie horror game I can recommend Stairs.

So Left Alone.. It was good, but it wasn't great. There were certain things that were executed very well; i.e. the atmosphere, sound design, lighting, and the story. The whole setting, which was an abandoned school, felt very real and believable, and along with it's lighting definitely created a spooky atmosphere... But that's just it, the game was only spooky. For some people that's great, but there were no jump scares at all.

The game "trys" to do jump scares via painting easels that well suddenly appear the moment you turn around. At first they're creepy, they do give you goosebumps, but they quickly lose their touch and even become something to be laughed at. Honestly, this is something we've seen before in other games and for Left Alone to rely solely on this tatic left an empty void for horror. Sure for most of the game I was on the edge, listening carefully for any and all sounds, but since nothing was actually happening, eventually, my guard came down and I realized there was nothing to fear.
My other set back for the game were these long dragged on moments that became irritating. An example would be that you're locked in a room and you have to wait, what feels like several minutes, for the door to unlock. This happened a couple times in different ways; there would be the scare tatic, the effects would quickly come and go, then you're left sitting there waiting for the game to allow you to progress.

Now why I am rating this a thumbs up? Because I really feel like this game has a lot of potential. It definitely needs some work, but there is genuinely something here, quite possibly a great horror experience. It is it's own execution that I feel needs to be tweaked and flushed out just a BIT more. With an intriguing story, awesome settings and lighting, and great sound design give a lot of promise to Left Alone, I just like a lot more scares personally with my horror games.

There's a very common saying, "You get what you pay for". I got this game for $4 and it felt like a played a $4 game. I would NOT, however, suggest to anyone paying for this game full price.
So the game itself... It wasn't terrible... but it was far from great.. actually it's not great at all. Boring really. I'm giving it a thumbs down because I personally feel it could have been better.
Let's talk about what the game did RIGHT.
Pros:
+ Graphics are pretty darn good. For an indie title like this I was quite surprised. Some areas in the game were lackluster, but for the most part, graphics were solid and lighting was great.
+ A couple decent jump cares that got me pretty good.
+ Smooth. No tearing or anything.

... That's about all the pros I could really think of.
Cons:
- Here's my biggest con and I'm really curious to see if I was the only person who had this problem. The game consumed 99% of my GPU the WHOLE time! This was insane! I have an I7, 32GBs of RAM, GTX 970, and great cooling, but this game was making my GPU run at 60c-69c (140f-154f) non stop. I've ran extremely GPU and CPU demanding games and have always had temperatures ranging from 110f to 125f under more intense loads than this game.
- Another con was the enemies... There were only two: a dude with a mask and a S**T ton of spiders, and not even good spiders to be honest, these were some crap spiders, didn't even have eyes and moved like stiff cardboard. At the the beginning of the game, it felt like this could be real promising, but once you come to the conclusion that "this is it? this is the only thing I'm going to encounter" the game quickly loses it's charm it had in the beginning. It gets even more ridiculous when you come across this GIANT spider that roars like a dinosaur... I literally shook my head and thought wtf...
- At the times the game did this forced camera perspective to force you to look at something the game thought was "important".
Example: *Pool of blood on ground*
Camera: "WOAH LOOK AT DIS POUL OF BLOOOD ON THE GROUND, SUUPR SCARI RIGHT?!"
ME: "F**ks sake that's annoying, get off me camera, let me discover it on my own, please."
Camera: "I CANT RISK U MISSIN THISS!!"
(You get the idea).
- Game does have it's occasional bugs. My favorite one is if you jump on a surface of the game you're not suppose to jump on a square with the words "No surface type - assign something to this" appears where you're jumping and it's a good reminder that this game is clearly not finished.
- Lastly, this is a walking simulator straight up. You cannot die. Running is the equivalent of an elderly person doing cardio. The GOOD scares are few and far between making each moment until then a total drag.

Conculsion: If you want a well polished, FUN, apocolypse style, Russian, etc. type of game, just play Metro or STALKER. This game just doesn't do it. It quite possibly could have done well as a paranormal horror game, due to it's lighting and enviroments, but it's not, and I'm out $4 and 2 hours of my life.

Not... terrible... I beat it in about 40 minutes, would have been 30 if my $1000 PC could handle this intense game *sarcasim*, but serious this game crashed 3 times which was annoying. Overall not bad, but not great. It has a nice atmosphere. The sound could be better, it was creepy, but when the fx came on it was LOUD. Cons... short, not very challenging, and not too many scares, BUT it's $2 so you get what you pay for and for what I paid it wasn't bad. It's a indie title and the guy didn't do a half bad job. If you're doing a horror game marathon and need something inbetween games then pick this up.

ALSO, the grammer in this is HORRIBLE haha not recommended for grammer Nazis.

I'm so mixed about this game, but overall I'm going to give it a thumbs down. I know I'm going to get a lot of hate and thumbs down on this review because my opinion is not the majority, but I think this game needs to be marketed in a different way so people know what they are TRUELY getting. Now to give the benefit of the doubt, I did walk into this expecting an experience I recieved from The Stanley Parable, which I thought was fantastic; sadly this high expectation probably shot down my hopes because it's an entirely different game. I love narative games, but this is definitely not what I thought it would be and in fact, and to be honest, this game was depressing.
I don't want to say too much without giving away what's happening in this narative, I REALLY appreciate the message and intentions this game had as it's a very personal message from one person to another, but I don't think it's worth the $10. Actually when I got to the end I was curious, after learning the game's true intentions, why I (the consumer) had to pay for it. Maybe when it's on sale for a dollar or two it's worth checking out, but I feel like I spent $10 to get sad and disappointed at the end and didn't walk away from this feeling rewarded at all. If I could I would give this a thumbs up rating for it's ambition and purpose, but a thumbs down for it's execution at the end along with it's price. So consider this a neutral review, it just wasn't for ME, but it could work entirely for someone else.

I recommend it, but... get it on sale, 2 hours of gameplay for $15? I don't think so. ANOTHER BUT... I did enjoy the game. I'm a horror fanatic; headsets, lights off, volume up kinda deal. This game was a nice quick good scare. The art work in this game is great and delievers a spine chilling vibe. The creator of this game had the inspiration from personal experiences with depression and OCD and that definitely becomes viable in this game. There are very frew jump scares as the game relies more on it's heavy and dark atmosphere to deliver the scare. The story is a mystery, there's three different outcomes and definitely gets you thinking. IF IT'S ON SALE and you're looking for a quick spook, go ahead and grab this.
