This is a fairly long review, there's a summary at the bottom if you don't feel like reading.
Let's go through pros and cons.


- Fun main loop, just like it's predecessors. This is essential to basically any good game.

- Quite good looking. Nothing ground-breaking, but definitely a step-up from Payday 2. Also supposed to get an Unreal Engine 5 update, which will most likely make it even more gooder looking.

- Good gunplay. I don't quite know how to describe it, but the gunplay just.. feels tight, a LOT tighter than it was in PD2.

- Some heists at launch are fun. Realistically, this is neither a pro or a con since some are definitely not, but I'd say there's more fun heists than unfun heists.

- Stealth rework. Stealth actually feels good now. Pulling off a full-stealth heist makes me feel like Solid Snake if he was wearing a funny mask.

- Online only. Not much I could say here that hasn't been said 50 times already. This is just a bad decision. Please backpedal on this, I beg of you.

- The progression system is absolute ass, and goes against being a good team player.. in a cooperative game. At some point in your progression, you'll basically have 3 choices:
Ignore challenges, and just have fun playing the game and hope you unlock them passively;
Go for levelling, but don't wanna go solo, so play in lobbies for heist unlocks + kill challenges;
Wtf are challenges ?;

Needless to say, option 1 and 3 are .. not good if you care about actually progressing your game.. but option 2 makes you an ass. There is no right answer,

- Number of heists. While I do understand that making a game (almost) from the ground up, with a new engine and major reworks, takes a lot of time and effort, having only 8 heists at launch, and as such, 8 'free' heists, is borderline unacceptable. Payday 2 had 12,

- ♥♥♥♥♥♥ UI. The heist selection menu, which replaces crime.net, manages to be worse than it's predecessor, which is quite a wonder considering how cumbersome crime.net was. It's like the heist selection UI was made without thinking about the fact there'll be more heists in the future.. just imagine if it's not remade until PD3's end of life and it has like 70 DLC heists like PD2, and how long you'll have to scroll horizontally to find that one heist you want to play.

- Where is the safe house ? I know a lot of people considered this useless in payday 2, but the safehouse provided a pretty good amount of in-universe lore, along with an immersive sense of progression.

Payday 3 is a game with a very fun game loop and a LOT of potential. But with a very bad progression system, lackluster base content, and most-notably, a 'game as a service' online-only (even if you're trying to play single-player) system, I just can't recommend it in it's current state. I hope I'll be able to change this to a positive review soon enough, because I genuinely enjoy playing it right now, but I don't know how long that'll last.
